An ancient kapok tree with orange flowers in Quang Binh is recognized as a Vietnam Heritage Tree.

On August 24, Mr. Pham Van Bang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province), said: "The locality has just held a ceremony to announce the decision to recognize Thach Hoa commune as meeting new rural standards in 2023 and the decision to recognize the kapok tree located in the commune as a Vietnamese Heritage tree".

This orange-flowered kapok tree is located in Thiet Son village 3, Thach Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa district (Quang Binh province) and is located in the Tuyen Hoa white-cheeked langur community conservation area.

According to the elders in Thach Hoa commune, the orange-flowered cotton tree is a historical witness associated with the period of opening up the village by our ancestors and they do not know when it was born. They only know that since childhood, they have seen the cotton tree standing tall, spreading shade next to the village fields, even through the fierce period of bombs and bullets.

At the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council announced and presented the decision of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment recognizing the kapok tree in Thiet Son village 3, Thach Hoa commune as a Vietnam Heritage Tree.

The local government has opened a wide road to the kapok tree area so that people and tourists can easily come to visit and take pictures.

Mr. Le Nam Giang - Chairman of Tuyen Hoa District People's Committee (Quang Binh Province) shared: "We are very happy that the kapok tree has been recognized as a Vietnamese Heritage Tree. In the coming time, the locality will actively coordinate with specialized agencies to develop a plan to protect and preserve precious genetic resources, promote the value of the heritage kapok tree, and preserve the scientific and natural historical values ​​for future generations."

After more than 10 years of building a new rural area, Thach Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province) has mobilized resources of over 43 billion VND to invest in building infrastructure works and developing production. With the motto of the state and the people working together, the people have donated 32,050 m2 of land of all kinds. By December 2023, Thach Hoa commune had completed 19/19 new rural criteria and was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as a commune meeting new rural standards in 2023.
