On October 8, a representative of Children's Hospital 2 (HCMC) said they were receiving and treating a child patient who suffered serious injuries in the incident where a tree fell on a pedestrian in District 1 on the evening of October 7.
Specifically, the patient is LBY (6 years old, District 4) who was hospitalized with pale lips and a fracture of the lower third of the radius bone of the right forearm.
A child was injured by a fallen tree while riding a motorbike with a relative on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, Da Kao Ward, District 1.
Currently, the patient is on high-parameter mechanical ventilation, high-dose vasopressor, vital signs are unstable, continue anti-shock, blood product transfusion.
Ultrasound examination showed large right pleural effusion, heterogeneous structure of the upper pole of the spleen, subcapsular effusion, monitoring of spleen injury, subcapsular effusion of the liver, large amount of ascites with echo, monitoring of ascites.
The patient had emergency right pleural drainage at the bedside with green fluid mixed with blood, diagnosed with traumatic shock, multiple trauma, liver and spleen injury, lung contusion, and right pleural effusion.
After a hospital-wide consultation, the doctor decided to perform exploratory chest and abdominal surgery to assess the problem of perforated hollow organs and stop the bleeding.
The child is still being actively treated by doctors at the hospital.
Regarding the incident of uprooted trees in District 1 (HCMC), on the same day, Dr. Vu Duc Nhan - Deputy Head of the General Planning Department, Saigon General Hospital - also informed about the latest health status of 2 patients transferred for treatment.
Male patient (47 years old) has current diagnosis of closed fracture of left acromion, hypertension.
The patient is currently in stable condition and conscious. She has requested to be discharged from the hospital to go to Children's Hospital 2 to take care of her daughter, who was also a victim of the tree fall.
The patient was given a left shoulder brace and the doctor advised him to watch out for dangerous signs and return for a check-up at the nearest medical facility soon.
Female patient (45 years old) has current diagnosis of multiple trauma, contusion, laceration of liver segment VI, fracture of ribs 4-12 with small left pleural effusion.
The patient's current condition is stable and alert. He has been safely transferred to People's Hospital 115 for further treatment.
Tree in the center of Ho Chi Minh City uprooted and fell on pedestrian
As Tuoi Tre Online reported earlier, at around 7:00 p.m. on October 7, during heavy rain, a star tree at the intersection of Mac Dinh Chi and Nguyen Dinh Chieu was uprooted and lying across the road.
The fallen tree is a starfruit tree, about 10m high, with shallow roots. The trunk is about 20cm in diameter, lying across the road.
On the afternoon of October 7, heavy rain occurred in Ho Chi Minh City. Some areas had heavy rain such as Binh Thanh District, District 1, Phu Nhuan District, Thu Duc City. Rainfall was generally 10 - 30mm, in some places up to 70mm.
During thunderstorms, there were times when gusts of wind reached level 5 - 7 (8 - 17m/s).
