In his opening remarks, Thanh Nien Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Ngoc Toan recalled: In early March 2023, Thanh Nien Newspaper organized a workshop on "Opening visas, restoring tourism". At that time, Vietnam was one of the first countries in the world to open up after the Covid-19 pandemic, but tourism was lagging behind, not seizing the opportunity to compete to attract international visitors to Vietnam.

The Government, the Prime Minister and relevant ministries and branches at that time also organized many conferences to clarify the causes and find solutions. Based on that context, Thanh Nien Newspaper stood up to connect managers, experts, and travel companies to propose and recommend opening visas so that tourism has a chance to break through, contributing to economic recovery after losses caused by the pandemic.
Since then, visa and tourism policies have improved significantly, and Vietnamese tourism has also achieved more positive results. In particular, in the first 3 months of this year, we have attracted more than 6 million international visitors to Vietnam, higher than in 2019, before the pandemic broke out. However, compared to countries in the region such as Thailand, Malaysia, etc., our visa policy is much more modest and cautious.
"More importantly, Vietnam is facing an extremely challenging situation between the goal of high economic growth to bring the country into a new era, on the one hand, facing reciprocal taxes, which can affect the export turnover of many key economic sectors. In that context, there will have to be industries and fields that need to break out to share the burden with exports. One of them, in our opinion, is tourism" - Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan commented.
Overview of the workshop

According to Thanh Nien Newspaper Editor-in-Chief, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested that by the end of April, relevant ministries and sectors must submit proposals and recommendations on unilateral visa exemptions, specific visas for specific visitors, and solutions to facilitate visa procedures... From the time the document was issued until the deadline for submitting the Report to the Government was only about 3 weeks. That shows the Government's determination to improve the current visa policy, but at the same time, it also requires relevant ministries and sectors to race to complete the work.
Thanh Nien Newspaper - which has been pursuing this issue - once again continues to join management agencies, experts and businesses to open a discussion and analyze which groups of visitors Vietnam should exempt visas for? What improvements are needed in current visa procedures to make it more convenient for tourists? How can international visitors to Vietnam increase but the sales and profits of tourism development businesses must also increase accordingly, so that taxes increase, jobs increase and the entire tourism ecosystem increases...
Recommendations, proposals and suggestions at the workshop will be compiled and sent directly to the Government Office and leaders of relevant ministries and branches, before the deadline requested by the Prime Minister.
