Quang Ngai's largest sand mine has nearly halved its reserves compared to the auction.

On May 20, speaking with Thanh Nien reporters, the leader of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Ngai confirmed that the reserves of Tinh An - Nghia Dung sand mine (located downstream of Tra Khuc River, Quang Ngai City) when re-explored had decreased by about 43% compared to the predicted reserves when auctioned.

The leader of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Ngai explained that the forecasted reserves were subjective and had not been measured or surveyed in the field, so they could not be accurate. After the auction, the winning bidder had conducted measurements, surveys, and explorations using equipment, so they were very accurate. Previously, there was a company that returned the sand mine to the province when the exploration drilling revealed that the sand reserves were too small, but the assessment by the naked eye showed that the reserves were very high. So the difference between forecast and exploitation, even if large, is not a problem.

"Previously, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Ngai organized an auction based on topographical measurement, survey, exploration records... to determine the most accurate reserves for the auction. However, this was concluded by the State Audit to be against regulations," the leader of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quang Ngai added.

Tinh An - Nghia Dung sand mine has been approved for the largest area and mineral reserves in Quang Ngai province to date.

In the report on the results of mineral exploration for construction materials at Tinh An - Nghia Dung sand mine, there were changes when the forecasted reserves were up to 3.4 million m3 , but when exploring and evaluating the designed reserves for exploitation, it was only about 1.95 million m3 . Although the exploration area was still 53.4 hectares, the sand reserves decreased by nearly 1.5 million m3 , an estimated decrease of about 43% compared to the forecasted reserves.

In early 2023, the Tinh An - Nghia Dung sand mine with an area of 53.4 hectares was put up for auction by the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province. The winning bidder was Binh Minh Central Investment, Development and Trade Joint Stock Company. This company bid nearly 15 times higher than the starting price.
