On the evening of July 30, the national costume competition night of the Miss Grand Vietnam 2024 contest had an unfortunate incident related to the performance of the "Trung Vuong " costume by designer Nguyen Huy Hoang.
Accordingly, the costume performed by beauty Bui Ly Thien Huong was called "Trung Vuong", inspired by the historical anecdote about Hai Ba Trung, but the explanation from the organizers quoted the famous saying of Ba Trieu: "I want to ride the strong wind, step on the fierce waves, kill the whales in the East Sea, regain the country, establish independence, free myself from slavery, and not bow down to be someone's concubine".
Faced with this incident, the competition organizers immediately had to stop the live broadcast on the information channels and apologize to the audience shortly afterwards.
According to the announcement from the organizers, during the performance, they realized there was a mistake in the historical details in the commentary. However, because the program was being broadcast live, it could not be handled immediately. Immediately after the performance ended, the organizers quickly stopped the broadcast and removed the part with the mistake.
The cause of the incident was determined to be that the technical staff mistakenly used an unapproved audio file. Specifically, during the rehearsal night on July 29, the quote by General Ba Trieu was not used in the performance. The organizing committee also did not approve the addition of this quote to the official competition night – which was the designer’s intention.
However, the technical staff mistakenly used an audio file that had not been approved by the organizers, leading to the above incident.
“More than anyone else, the organizers would like to take responsibility for their mistakes and sincerely apologize to the audience. We hope that the audience will forgive the unfortunate mistake and continue to enjoy the National Costume competition, the efforts of young designers, and their efforts to convey the traditional culture of Vietnam,” the organizers said.
This incident received a lot of backlash from the audience, many of whom questioned the program's content censorship. In response to these comments, the organizers affirmed that they will seriously consider the audience's feedback to improve the upcoming programs.
Miss Grand Vietnam 2024 is a contest to find a representative of Vietnam to participate in Miss Grand International 2024, taking place in Cambodia and Thailand.
The final night of Miss Grand Vietnam 2024 is scheduled to take place on August 3 at NovaWorld Phan Thiet, Binh Thuan .
