The Face 2023, which recently aired, has sparked much controversy due to heated arguments between the duo Ky Duyen - Minh Trieu and Vu Thu Phuong, Anh Thu.

In a conversation with a VTC News reporter, supermodel Vu Thu Phuong shared her thoughts on the controversies surrounding the recently aired episode.

- After the first episode aired and caused a lot of controversy, did you contact Ky Duyen and Minh Trieu to clarify the uproar?

Why should I contact you? Everything is so clear. When the show aired, the editors cut out the lengthy, argumentative segments. I absolutely didn't like having over ten minutes dedicated to such drama in the first episode. Everything that happened was real; there was no staging involved.

I think position is both important and unimportant. Its importance depends on each individual. If you are confident and shine, then any position is fine. If you constantly demand too much, that's a sign of insecurity.

- Viewers are very surprised by Minh Triệu's statement about being repeatedly attacked and having many "marks" left on her body during filming. What is the truth behind this story?

I was shocked to hear this because it was just interaction during filming, nothing too serious. Minh Triệu and I only had three sword-fighting scenes together. We interacted with each other because it was an action scene. It's possible that during filming I accidentally caused Minh Triệu to get a few scratches.

However, I was shocked because it was completely normal. I myself got a lot of scrapes and bruises during filming. With action scenes like that, not only the coaches but also the contestants got a lot of scratches. I regret that if Minh Triệu had brought up the issue to resolve it, I would have shown her the injuries on my body. It wasn't just me; Anh Thư, Kỳ Duyên, and all the contestants had them too. When you agree to film action scenes, scratches, skin abrasions, and broken nails are normal occurrences.

I always want to do everything perfectly. Everyone needs to be fully focused, so I had to listen to Nam Trung and the director of photography, not Minh Triệu. She suggested twice that we both raise and lower our swords in unison. However, Nam Trung said we had to fight each other with flying swords. That was the director's instruction, so I regret not being able to heed Minh Triệu's suggestion at that time.

I want to apologize to Minh Triệu if I caused her any harm, but it was completely unintentional. I hope Minh Triệu won't think negatively and manipulate public opinion in this way. I also want to tell the two of you that the mistake in the program was your fault, don't shift the blame onto me like that, it's very strange.

- So, does that mean the phrase "passing the buck" that you shared after the show was meant to target Minh Triệu?

When I posted that message, I was definitely referring to the person who had shifted the blame onto me. I don't like that. I hope that if there's a problem, people should resolve it clearly right away. But here, those two girls were clearly in the wrong, yet they still made such statements. You can see that there were times when I had to be patient and remain silent. The reason is that I was caught in the middle, on one side was my teacher, and on the other side were my students.

During the auditions, Ky Duyen and Minh Trieu were always together. I even joked about finding a way to separate them. Later, I thought it was a bit excessive, so I didn't pay much attention to it anymore and just let it go. When working professionally, you should respect each other. You shouldn't make excessive demands like that.

- What do you think about the opinions that Vu Thu Phuong is deliberately creating drama and using younger artists to boost her own fame?

What do they have that I need to rely on? If you compare people in every field and every value, you'll understand. Does Vu Thu Phuong need drama or fame? If I do, I'm capable of doing it myself; I don't need to rely on anyone. Let's see who shines when everyone appears together.

I pride myself on being a stylish supermodel with my own unique values. I'm still working on improving myself every day.

Whether I returned to showbiz for the glamour or not is uncertain, but it's my hobby and passion. I'm not returning to be a supermodel or a beauty queen, but simply to share and support the younger generation. I'm also not overly concerned about my team winning. I will support them wholeheartedly in whatever way I can. That's what I want to bring to the program, not these inappropriate comparisons.

Vu Thu Phuong felt disappointed by Minh Trieu's behavior.

- What is your relationship like with Ky Duyen and Minh Trieu now?

Initially, we had a great time working together during the contestant selection process. Although there were some disagreements in trying to convince contestants to join our teams, everything remained perfectly normal. My relationship with the two of them is still good, but if you ask if I'd still want to work together, I'm not sure.

I ignored the issue of seating arrangements. However, why did I have to speak up at that time? Because you were demanding to cancel the filming. Even Anh Thu was upset because she had waited two hours before these unreasonable and outrageous demands. From the beginning, Anh Thu and I had no problem with seating arrangements. If we had both been placed outside in the draw, we would both have been fine.

The two of you were wrong, but you were jumping around illogically. At that moment, you pushed towards Ms. Thu because she wanted to stop filming, and I had to pull her back. At that time, the crew was about 200 people, and the organizers had invested in a robotic arm, which was very expensive.

Perhaps the audience will not see it positively when the coaches argue like that, but when necessary, I have to speak up. I am qualified to teach my students, my juniors, and protect my own dignity.

However, because of speaking out, she also faced criticism for her rather harsh attitude towards younger colleagues?

An event that lasted two hours, but aired with only a few minutes left, was that enough time to fully understand the story? The two senior colleagues had to wait two hours listening to the younger ones' demands and requests; I think my reaction at the time was too mild. We were all tired and wanted to finish quickly so everyone could rest, but you only thought about your own feelings.

At that time, I just wanted to get home to my children as quickly as possible. That's why my response then was much milder than what actually happened. I think the more you two investigate, the more you'll only damage your own image.

- There are many opinions suggesting that Vu Thu Phuong and Anh Thu are bullying their younger colleagues?

The images clearly show that the two older girls were actually being bullied. Anh Thư and I waited almost two hours before speaking up, and yet we're being accused of bullying our juniors?

- After this incident, what is your view of Minh Triệu - your student?

I don't understand what caused Minh Triệu to become the way she is. In the following episodes, you'll see even more. Right now, to describe this student, the phrase "heartbroken" is the only way.

- Many viewers have also said that the coaches' conflicts are all staged and pre-arranged by the show. Is this true?

Participating in this competition means the organizers have certain rules. We only find out the challenges when we arrive for filming. While filming, the other side will be completely shielded and kept secret. Everything is confidential. That's the beauty of reality TV, and I can confirm that everything is natural, not staged.

- After all the controversy, are you and Ky Duyen - Minh Trieu still happy to continue filming the next episodes?

I'm not allowed to reveal the show's content because it hasn't aired yet. I think viewers should watch episode 2 to understand why there's so much controversy. This is just the beginning.

- Anh Thu was horrified by this year's The Face Vietnam, but what about Vu Thu Phuong?

I was no different; I was panicked, scared, and anxious. At that time, I was also unlucky enough to have family pressure on top of that. The accumulated pressure made me feel terrible. My husband was away on business, our house had been burglarized, and only my four daughters were home. When I was filming, I wasn't allowed to use my phone, so I felt like I was on fire all the time.

The time pressure during filming was truly brutal. I've never experienced a show with as much time pressure as The Face Vietnam because I had to work continuously. The producers also constantly presented difficult challenges due to the pressure of returning after 5 years.

- Your "pecking" catwalk style in the show also caused quite a bit of controversy. Many people think Vu Thu Phuong was overacting. What would you like to say about this?

It seems that audiences always prefer to conform to certain standards. Like in my time, audiences tended to favor foreign things. Famous people around the world called me a fashion icon, while the audience in my home country saw me as someone who didn't meet their standards.

Do I really have to abandon my unique qualities and imitate someone else? Do people want to see five identical people, or five people with five distinct personalities?
