Currently, in Tinh Tuc town, there are 73 households producing cassava vermicelli, with an output of nearly 30 tons/year. Most households mainly make vermicelli from red cassava tubers, the production stages are all done by hand in a traditional way, so the vermicelli output is not much. However, compared to vermicelli in other localities in the province, the price of Tinh Tuc vermicelli is 30,000 VND - 60,000 VND/kg higher, so it is easy for vermicelli products from other places to counterfeit Tinh Tuc vermicelli. Therefore, building and protecting the certification mark for Tinh Tuc vermicelli has become an urgent requirement for this product to develop sustainably and affirm its value in the market.
Chairman of Tinh Tuc Town People's Committee Trieu Thi Kim Dung said: Tinh Tuc mine vermicelli is mainly produced on a small scale in households, handmade, products supplied to the domestic market, especially Tinh Tuc vermicelli products have been sent to Russia, England, Malaysia and some other countries. However, in the past, some localities have counterfeited Tinh Tuc town vermicelli, affecting the quality and reputation of local vermicelli. Therefore, the local government hopes that the Project to create, manage and develop Tinh Tuc mine vermicelli certification trademark for Tinh Tuc town vermicelli products will build a Tinh Tuc mine vermicelli certification trademark, this is a major goal contributing to making Tinh Tuc's products more valuable in the market. Help consumers identify and trust Tinh Tuc town vermicelli, protect the rights of producers and consumers, expand the market, and affirm the traditional cultural values of Tinh Tuc. Once the brand is established, it will support local tourism development.
Mr. Linh Thanh Nghia's family, hamlet 3, group 4, Tinh Tuc town, annually uses the family's available land to grow red cassava to produce vermicelli. According to him, vermicelli made from red cassava has a more delicious and chewy taste than other types of cassava. On average, his family produces nearly 1 ton of finished vermicelli. The price delivered to agents is from 130,000 VND/kg or more. However, in recent years, the situation of Tinh Tuc mine vermicelli appearing with fake and cheap products has made households that directly produce vermicelli like Mr. Linh Thanh Nghia's family worried. Therefore, he and other households in the town really hope that Tinh Tuc vermicelli will be protected by the state and authorities through the establishment of a certified brand. Mr. Linh Thanh Nghia shared: Currently, there is no brand on the market for mine vermicelli, and no family has registered for OCOP. When Tinh Tuc mine vermicelli has a label, it will avoid the case of other vermicelli being mixed.
The project “Creating, managing and developing the Tinh Tuc vermicelli certification mark for the vermicelli products of Tinh Tuc town, Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang province” will be implemented in 24 months (from December 2023 to December 2025). Implemented with 5 main contents, the project aims to protect and develop the brand for Tinh Tuc vermicelli through practical and in-depth activities.
First of all, building a certification mark is a necessary step to help products stand firm in the market and gain consumer trust. At the same time, building regulations for managing and using certification marks is also very important to ensure consistent quality for households registering to use the mark.
To date, the project has agreed on a label for Tinh Tuc vermicelli products to ensure product identification and protection from counterfeiting. At the same time, meetings have been held to solicit opinions on the development of product descriptions and label management regulations, helping stakeholders better understand the regulations and requirements when using the certification mark.
In the coming time, the project will build a system, means of promoting and developing the certification brand of Tinh Tuc vermicelli to introduce vermicelli products to a large number of consumers in and outside the province. In addition, building an OCOP product for Tinh Tuc vermicelli is also an important part of the project. This is an opportunity for Tinh Tuc vermicelli to be upgraded, meet quality standards and become a prominent specialty product of the province.
Strengthening the management and production capacity of producers is an indispensable factor in the sustainable development of Tinh Tuc vermicelli. Training courses and technical support will help producers master the standard vermicelli making process, improve production technology, and improve skills so that vermicelli products always ensure the highest quality. Thanks to that, consumers will be more confident when choosing Tinh Tuc vermicelli as a quality and safe product.
The project not only brings economic benefits to the people but also contributes to preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the Tay ethnic group in Tinh Tuc. When the certification mark is established and Tinh Tuc vermicelli products are protected, this will be a solid stepping stone for this product to not only develop strongly in the domestic market but also be exported to the world.
