Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of Weather Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, has just announced that in the past 2 days, the North has experienced showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain. Some places such as Hoa Binh and Ha Giang recorded rainfall of 100-200mm, even Xuan Minh (Ha Giang) up to 290mm (as of 1:00 p.m. on June 24).
Most recently, last night and early this morning (June 25), the rainfall from 7pm to 3am was over 60mm in some places such as: Mau Dong (Yen Bai) 82.6mm, Tan Minh (Phu Tho) 76.6mm, Nam Cuong (Lao Cai) 76.6mm, Ha Lang (Tuyen Quang) 67.6mm, Thi Hoa (Cao Bang) 95.2mm, Lam Son (Hoa Binh) 75.7mm, Hung Phu (Nghe An) 79.6mm, Yen Phong (Thanh Hoa) 60.4mm,...
It is forecasted that from early this morning to tomorrow morning, the Northern and North Central regions will continue to have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing very heavy rain. Rainfall in the mountainous and midland areas of the North will be 50-100mm, with some places experiencing over 150mm; in the Northern Delta region, 30-70mm, with some places experiencing over 100mm; in the North Central region, 20-50mm, with some places experiencing over 70mm.
According to Mr. Tuan, the areas strongly affected by local heavy rains are concentrated in Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Hoa Binh and some places in the Northeast.
“This is a very dangerous weather situation when localized rainfall occurs in a short period of time, often accompanied by various natural disasters such as flash floods, landslides, flash floods or flooding in urban areas,…”, Mr. Tuan emphasized.
At the same time, Mr. Tuan noted that the rain mainly concentrates at night and in the morning, decreasing in intensity during the day, then recurs in the evening and at night, lasting until morning. Due to the heavy rain at this time, it is very difficult to prevent and control the rain, especially in mountainous areas.
As for Hanoi's weather , also due to the influence of the low pressure trough combined with the low vortex, from the night of June 24 to the morning of June 26, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain with thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind; the average rainfall is 50-100mm, in some places it is higher than 150mm. From the night of June 26, the area will have less rain, scattered with rainfall of 10-20mm.
Assessing this heavy rain, Mr. Tuan added that the scenario is similar to the first period of June (from June 8-10) with total rainfall and areas of occurrence...
In addition, Mr. Tuan further assessed that around June 28-29, the North and Central regions may experience heat waves again and last until early July. In particular, the Central region may experience extremely hot weather with daytime temperatures above 39 degrees.
When a storm occurs, it develops quickly and unpredictably.
Regarding the La Nina phenomenon, expert Vu Anh Tuan informed that ENSO is in the neutral phase. From July to September, the probability of transitioning to La Nina is about 65-75%, from October to December it is 70-90%.
Mr. Tuan said that the closer to the end of the year, the greater the probability of La Nina appearing. With such La Nina, it will cause very complicated developments in the 2024 storm season.
According to estimates, from now until the end of the year, there is a possibility of 10-12 storms appearing, of which 5-7 will directly affect our country. The possibility of many strong storms in the East Sea cannot be ruled out.
Mr. Tuan especially noted that when storms appear in the East Sea, they develop quickly and are very unpredictable, causing difficulties in prevention work.
Experts also predict that floods and rains often occur at the end of the year. In the northern provinces, July and August will see rainfall at approximately the same level as the average for many years; however, in September, October and early November, rainfall will increase by 10-30%.
For the Central region, from July to September, rainfall will increase by about 10-20% compared to the same period; in October-November and early December, it is likely to increase by 20-40%; there is a risk of prolonged flooding, widespread flooding, flash floods and landslides...
The North has been hit by heavy rain since the afternoon of June 24, with some places experiencing over 250mm.
In the coming days, many regions across the country will have rain, of which, from the evening of June 24 to 26, the North will have heavy rain, some places over 250mm; the North Central region has some places over 200mm. It is forecasted that from around June 28, the hot weather will likely return.
