(Dan Tri) - With a series of amenities surrounding the stations, Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) promises to be a breath of fresh air for the appearance of traffic and urban areas in Ho Chi Minh City.
After 12 years of construction, Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) has officially been put into commercial operation for a week. This is expected to be a breath of fresh air for the traffic and urban landscape of Ho Chi Minh City in the near future. Metro Line 1 consists of 14 stations, including 11 elevated stations running along Hanoi Highway. Many buildings, complexes and commercial centers have sprung up along the Metro line, demonstrating the model of public transport-oriented urban development (TOD), creating residential and commercial areas directly connected to the public transport system. Several shopping malls located opposite the elevated stations are also connected by pedestrian bridges. The entire Metro Line 1 has 9 pedestrian bridges, helping passengers access the elevated stations more conveniently and safely. Most of the elevated stations are equipped with new bus stops to serve metro passengers. Accordingly, there will be 17 routes with 150 electric buses connecting residential areas, schools, traffic hubs, and commercial centers to metro stations and vice versa. Metro Line 1 has 3 underground stations: City Theater, Ba Son and Ben Thanh, all located in the central area of District 1. City Theater underground station is located on Le Loi street, one of the busiest streets in the city, surrounded by a series of complexes, shopping areas and especially next to the City Theater and Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. Ba Son underground station is located right at the foot of Ba Son bridge. From the station, passengers can travel by electric bus through District 4 and District 7 in just a few minutes. Ba Son station is also the last underground station of Metro Line 1 before transferring to the elevated section. At all stations, a map showing the way is placed in front of the entrance and exit, helping passengers to move to the next stop more conveniently. In addition, the routes around the stations are equipped with direction signs, helping people and tourists to find the location of the stations more easily. Ben Thanh Underground Station, one of the largest stations on Metro Line 1, is located right next to Ben Thanh Market, one of the oldest tourist destinations and considered a symbol of Ho Chi Minh City. Around Ben Thanh Underground Station, there are many large buildings and commercial centers, symbolizing the city. Once completed and put into operation, Metro Line 1 is expected to change the traffic and urban landscape of Ho Chi Minh City in the future, while also reducing traffic congestion in Ho Chi Minh City. Metro Line 1 is the first urban railway line built in Ho Chi Minh City, 19.7km long, including 2.6km underground and 17.1km elevated. The total investment after adjustment is 43,700 billion VND. The project has a route through District 1, Binh Thanh, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) and Di An (Binh Duong).
