On September 27, at the Meta Connect event to launch new products, Zuckerberg said the new generation of Ray-Ban smart glasses will start shipping on October 17 at a price of $299.
Ray-Ban smart glasses will be integrated with an AI assistant developed by Meta, capable of streaming what the wearer is seeing on Facebook and Instagram, a significant improvement over the photo-taking feature on the previous version.
The Meta AI assistant will also be integrated into Ray-Ban smart glasses, starting with a beta version in the US. A new software update is expected to give the assistant the ability to recognize locations and objects, and provide language translation next year.
Alongside Ray-Ban, Meta also unveiled its new Quest mixed reality headset, which will be available starting October 10. In addition, parent company Facebook also introduced the Meta AI chatbot, which can generate text and image responses.
“Sometimes we invent something that hasn’t been done before. And sometimes we innovate something that was expensive and make it accessible to everyone, affordable, or even free,” Zuckerberg said.
Meta's president of global affairs, Nick Clegg, said the company will ensure personal information is removed from the data used to train the model and impose restrictions to protect user privacy.
