Meo Vac develops and protects the "green lung"

Recognizing that importance, Meo Vac district has been implementing many synchronous solutions to preserve, protect and develop forests, contributing to balancing the ecosystem and improving the quality of life of the people.

Launching the Tree Planting Festival is an annual activity organized by Meo Vac district at the beginning of each new year. This is considered one of the important solutions to promote, encourage and motivate all levels, sectors and people to promote the tree planting and forestation movement, thereby contributing to increasing the forest coverage rate. Thanks to that, every year, many new trees have been planted; during the Spring of At Ty in 2025 alone, the whole district has planted nearly 48 thousand new trees, including more than 46 thousand forestry trees and nearly 2 thousand fruit trees and landscape trees.

Along with the Tet tree planting activities, Meo Vac district also focuses on implementing many solutions to develop forests. In particular, the district focuses on implementing silvicultural solutions suitable for each forest type, planning goals for 3 types of forests and forest management regulations. At the same time, strengthen measures to improve the quality and efficiency of planted forests in a sustainable manner, ensuring the quality of plant varieties suitable for land and climate conditions, with high economic value. Strengthen propaganda and guidance for people on forest care, protection and development, especially forest fire prevention and fighting.

Along with forest development, Meo Vac district pays special attention to the management and protection of existing forest areas. Accordingly, the district has directed specialized sectors and communes and towns to strictly control the conversion of forest use purposes and manage constructions on forestry land. Strengthen management measures, prevent illegal exploitation, trading and transportation of forest products. Promote the effectiveness of protective functions, protect the ecological environment and biodiversity of forests; combine forest conservation with tourism development to contribute to sustainable socio-economic development. At the same time, the district promotes the application of information technology in forest management and protection. Strengthen measures to protect wild animals and plants, conserve rare genetic resources, and forest ecosystems in the core zone of Chi San Nature Reserve.

As the core force in implementing forest management, protection and development, Meo Vac District Forest Protection Department has recently issued many documents related to forest management and protection. In addition, the unit focuses on directing local forest rangers to actively and proactively advise the authorities of communes and towns to effectively perform the function of state management of forests and forestry land in the management area. Regularly coordinate closely with the Police, Military , Border Guard, Market Management and authorities of communes and towns in patrolling, inspecting, detecting and preventing acts of illegal exploitation, storage and trading of forest products.

Along with the implementation of the above tasks, Meo Vac district also pays attention to implementing the policy of paying for forest environmental services. In fact, thanks to the good implementation of this policy, it has had a positive impact on the management, protection and development of forests. In particular, the source of funding for forest environmental services has helped many forest owners have a stable and sustainable source of funding to cover their living expenses and invest in economic development. Above all, their awareness and responsibility for protection and development have been raised.

Thanks to the synchronous implementation of many solutions, forest management, protection and development in Meo Vac district have had many positive changes, the number of violations of the Forestry Law has tended to decrease, and the annual forest cover rate has increased. In 2024, the forest cover rate of the whole district reached 38.2%, an increase of 3.4% compared to 2020. These are important results that create a foundation for the district to strive to increase the forest cover rate to 38.8% by the end of 2025, thereby contributing to the successful implementation of local socio-economic development tasks.
