MediaTek Dimensity 9400 outperforms Apple A18 Pro

MediaTek has previously been considered to lag behind Apple's A-series chips and Qualcomm's Snapdragon line in overall performance. However, Golden Reviewer conducted a comparison and the results showed that the Dimensity 9400 chipset surpassed the Apple A18 Pro in both performance and GPU efficiency.

Reportedly, the Dimensity 9400 is built on TSMC's second-generation 3nm process and boasts an impressive array of cores: an Arm Cortex-A720 core. This configuration delivers a 35% increase in single-core performance and a 28% increase in multi-core performance compared to the Dimensity 9300.

Apple's A18 Pro is also manufactured using TSMC's 3nm technology, featuring a six-core CPU with two high-performance cores clocked at 4.05 GHz and four efficient cores. Apple's design focuses on balancing power and efficiency, resulting in a processor that is both powerful and energy-efficient.

Benchmark tests show that the A18 Pro can outperform the Dimensity 9400 in single-core performance. However, in multi-core scenarios, the Dimensity 9400's 8-core design may give it an advantage.

Accordingly, the tests examined the graphics performance of the Dimensity 9400 against Apple's A18 Pro, focusing on the 3DMark benchmark.

In the Solar Bay ray tracing test, the Dimensity 9400 achieved an impressive score of 11,817 while using 11.4W, while the Apple A18 Pro only achieved 8,587 and consumed 11.1W of power. Thus, the Dimensity 9400 has an efficiency advantage of approximately 30% over the A18 Pro.

Furthermore, in 3DMark's Steel Nomad Light and WildLife Extreme benchmark tests, the Dimensity 9400 consistently scored higher than the A18 Pro while consuming less power, resulting in a performance advantage of approximately 40%. This highlights the potential of the Dimensity 9400, making it a solid choice for gaming and other GPU-intensive applications on Android devices.
