Recently, social networks were surprised by a short clip recording the scene of a French couple staying behind to sweep the yard and clean up after their Vietnamese in-laws’ wedding party in the West. The clip attracted nearly 5 million views and thousands of positive comments.
It is known that this is the wedding of Ms. Vo Thuy Vy (born 1994, Dong Thap ) and Mr. Jason Cavaille (born 1993, French nationality) taking place on February 25, 2024.

Sweet love story
One Friday night 6 years ago, Ms. Vy went to a bar on Pasteur Street (HCMC) to relax after breaking up with her ex-boyfriend. There, she accidentally met Mr. Jason.
Seeing the gentle French guy, she took the initiative to talk and get to know him. After that, the two went out together every day.

Jason then decided to stay in Vietnam. At the end of 2018, he declared his love to Vy and connected her with his family through social media.
In the summer of 2022, he took her to France to meet his family. The first time she visited her lover's house, Vy felt the closeness and warmth of her future husband's family.
During Tet 2023, the two had a memorable trip to the Philippines. During this trip, Vy received a romantic proposal from her foreign lover.

She said: “It was a beautiful morning in Moalboal Beach, Cebu, Philippines. While swimming underwater, he was holding something like a coral ring. Then he proposed to me.
Jason is a gentle, understanding and sharing man. After nearly 7 years together, I have never cried because of him.
I felt that all the crying and sadness in my previous relationship had paid off. He gave me the feeling of freedom, of being myself.

Unique wedding
Accepting the proposal, Ms. Vy quickly came up with ideas for her wedding with full traditional rituals but very economical.
She wanted to recreate the scene of the bride being picked up by boat, everyone eating porridge, singing, and having fun at the family gathering night of the old Western wedding. She also wanted her husband's family to experience Vietnamese culture during the wedding ceremony.
So she convinced her husband's entire family from France to come back to Vietnam to attend her wedding in Dong Thap. Her idea was enthusiastically supported by her husband's parents in France.

However, at home, it was very difficult for her to convince her parents to allow her to have a simple, economical wedding; to blend the two cultures of Vietnam and France; and to focus on the happiness of the bride, groom and guests.
When arriving in Vietnam, Jason's family spent a few days in Ho Chi Minh City to enjoy Vietnamese food and buy ao dai.
In the West, they experience cycling on country roads, lying in hammocks by the river, enjoying rustic dishes and tropical fruits...

To save money, the couple did not choose to hold the wedding in a restaurant or hotel. Instead, the wedding party took place simply in Vy's family's tiled-roof wooden house in the middle of the river delta.
On the wedding day, Jason took a boat to pick up the bride as Vy had expected. Besides the traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony, the couple also performed the Western wedding ceremony.
At the wedding, Vy’s father-in-law joined in the fun with traditional French music while the groom and his friends dressed up as actresses to experience the bingo show. The wedding party combined two cultures, surprising and impressing the guests.

At the end of the wedding, Ms. Vy felt happy and grateful for her husband's family's love and for coming to Vietnam to attend her wedding. She was also proud that through the wedding, her parents became more open with their son-in-law and in-laws.
Meanwhile, Jason could not hide his happiness when bringing a new experience to his family. He confided: “My parents were very happy to meet my Vietnamese family and attend the traditional Vietnamese wedding.
This was completely new to them. My parents were also happy and proud of our wedding. When they returned to France, they told everyone a lot about Vietnam and our wedding.”
