The mother-in-law worked hard to bring food from the countryside for her daughter-in-law to nourish her, but when she opened the bag, she was embarrassed and left.

Since my husband and I moved to an apartment and had another baby, my mother-in-law has been coming to visit every week, bringing a bunch of fresh food and helping me clean and look after the baby.

Mom said that if there are only 4 people in the family, it's better to eat at home for peace of mind. Going out is both a waste of money and not healthy.

I am very grateful to my mother-in-law for taking such good care of our children and grandchildren. Without her, I would not have been able to cope with the chaos of our family. We were so busy with two children and making a living that there were days when we were so tired that we wanted to give up everything.

Luckily, my mother-in-law supports me a few days a week, so I'm less stressed. My hometown is more than 60km from the city. I feel sorry for my mother because of the hard commute, so I told her to stay home and rest with my father, but she said she's still young and healthy, so she wants to help her children stabilize their lives. I can only say thank you to my mother-in-law. I'm so lucky to be her daughter-in-law.

Today, according to the regular schedule, my mother-in-law took the bus from the countryside to my house. She said it was cold so she brought some black chickens she raised herself to stew for her children and grandchildren. My father-in-law also just harvested a good crop of corn so he left a big bag for my family so that the children could drink corn milk to their heart's content.

Before coming to visit, my mother-in-law called to show off all sorts of things. My son was very excited, he just wanted to meet his grandmother to explore the “treasure” of food that she brought up. When she revealed that his grandfather had made him a kite, along with some fruits that he liked to eat, he was so happy that he listened to everything I said, and didn’t act mischievously like usual.

Around 3pm, my mother-in-law arrived. She struggled to carry her things from the bus to the elevator, and had to borrow a cart from the apartment security guard to bring them up to my house. When I opened the door to welcome her, I saw a big sack. I was startled because it was so heavy. My son cheered loudly, and I was moved when I thought of my mother traveling dozens of kilometers to carry the sack up here.

My husband helped my mother drag the bag into the kitchen. The whole family anxiously waited for my grandmother to open the bag, but do you know what the result was?

Surprisingly, the bag was full of coconut shells, vegetable roots and chicken feathers!

My mother-in-law looked as if she couldn't believe her eyes. She rummaged through the bag, but it was clearly a pile of trash and nothing edible.

She quickly video called home and asked him if he had seen the green sack. He wandered around for a while and then discovered the food bag still lying at the base of the tree by the gate. When he opened it, there was chicken and vegetables still inside!

So my mother-in-law sat down on the ground. While she was absent-mindedly regretting her loss, my husband and I were holding our stomachs and laughing uncontrollably, while her grandson was crying because he didn't have a kite to play with. Probably when she was about to leave the house to catch the bus, my mother-in-law was in such a hurry that she took the wrong garbage bag and left the food bag behind. It was also because my father-in-law used a sack that looked exactly like a garbage bag when packing, and when he tied it so tightly that it was impossible to tell which was which, and there was nothing inside, that my mother-in-law got confused.

Now it would be a pity to go back to the countryside to bring the food back, and if we left it at home, my grandparents wouldn't be able to finish it all. So today, the whole family decided to skip dinner and eat out. I looked at my mother-in-law, sad and felt so sorry for her. She kept blaming herself for being absent-minded, not being able to tell the difference between food and trash. Basically, the trash was all dry, clean stuff, as heavy as the food, so it was a funny story.

After trying to comfort my mother-in-law for a long time, she felt sorry for the money and wanted to take a bus back to bring food back to her children and grandchildren. My husband and I were so shocked that we immediately stopped her, because she would definitely get sick and tired if she went like that. I told my husband to give her some money to compensate, but she refused. She felt sorry for the effort she put into preparing all the food, and then traveling all the way to the city. After this trip, I guess I'll have to tell my mother to rest for a while, because I feel guilty for making her work so hard.
