At their home stadium, Diego Armando Maradona, Napoli secured an impressive victory against Empoli thanks to a strong attacking performance. Prior to the match, Antonio Conte's team was under pressure, trailing league leaders Inter Milan by six points after their 3-1 win against Cagliari the previous weekend.
Napoli's first goal came in the 18th minute, when Lukaku escaped the press and passed the ball to McTominay. The Scotland international's long-range shot was beyond the reach of goalkeeper Devis Vásquez, opening the scoring for Napoli. Lukaku then added his name to the scoresheet in the 56th minute.
Just five minutes later, McTominay completed his brace with a powerful header from Lukaku's cross, the ball hitting the crossbar. The duo continued to cause problems for the Empoli defense. McTominay could have scored a hat-trick if one of his shots hadn't been denied by the post.

These were also McTominay's 7th and 8th goals in Serie A this season. After the match, the midfielder praised Lukaku's talent: "Romelu is a great teammate. He always demands a lot from the whole team and from me in order to score more goals. Romelu also wants me to create more scoring opportunities for him."
Napoli will have a relatively easy schedule in their remaining six Serie A matches, mostly against teams currently in the lower half of the table. Their next game will be an away match against bottom-placed Monza on April 19th.
Currently, the gap between Napoli and Inter is only 3 points.
