According to AFP news agency, at a televised press conference, Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad said that among the dead victims was a young girl, more than 200 of the injured were in "critical condition" with injuries mainly reported to the face, hands and abdomen.
Iran's ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was also injured in a pager explosion, but his injuries were "only superficial" and he was "conscious and out of danger".
Lebanon's Information Ministry and Hezbollah blamed the Israeli military for the incident. Hezbollah also threatened that Israel would face "appropriate punishment".
Hamas also blamed Israel for the incident, saying it was an escalation that would only lead to "defeat and defeat".
On the Israeli side, the country has not yet responded to the explosions, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant have met to assess the security situation, focusing on building scenarios that can respond in case of escalation after the above incident.
Hours earlier, local authorities in northern Israel had asked residents to stay near shelters and reinforce safe rooms, citing concerns about the possibility of escalation.
Meanwhile, Sputnik news agency reported that United Nations (UN) spokesman Stephane Dujarric warned that the UN finds the latest developments in Lebanon very worrying, "especially when this is taking place in an extremely unstable context."
He also expressed regret over civilian casualties and said he was monitoring the situation in the Middle Eastern country.
