TPO - The Russian Defense Ministry said on September 25 that two Tu-95MS strategic bombers conducted a scheduled flight over the neutral waters of the Bering Sea, near the western coast of Alaska for 11 hours.
"Two Tu-95MS long-range bombers of the Russian Aerospace Forces performed routine patrol flights in the airspace over the neutral waters of the Bering Sea, near the western coast of Alaska. The flight lasted 11 hours and was accompanied by Su-35S and Su-30SM fighters of the Aerospace Forces," the report from the Russian Defense Ministry stated.
On the same day, the ministry said two Russian Tu-160 bombers also made an 11-hour flight over the neutral waters of the Arctic Ocean, the East Siberian Sea and the Laptev Sea.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, crews of Russian long-range fighters regularly fly over neutral waters of various regions, including the Arctic, North Atlantic, as well as the Black Sea, Baltic Sea and Pacific Ocean.
The Russian Defense Ministry affirmed that all flights of the Aerospace Forces strictly comply with international regulations on the use of airspace.
The Tu-95 is a heavy strategic bomber, designed and manufactured by Tupolev. Russia has upgraded the Tu-95 to the Tu-95MS to enhance its combat capabilities.
The Tu-95MS is 49.5 m long; has a wingspan of 50.5 m and a height of 12.2 m. It is called a heavy aircraft because the Tu-95MS has an empty weight of 90 tons and a maximum take-off weight of up to 187 tons.
The aircraft uses four Kuznetsov NK-12MV turboprop engines with a total capacity of 59,200 horsepower, allowing it to operate at a maximum speed of 925 km/h, a range of 15,000 km, and a ceiling of 12 km.
The Tu-95MS is equipped with a variety of weapons such as the AM-23 23 mm cannon; Kh-20, Kh-22 missiles; Kh-55 or Kh-55SM long-range cruise missiles. In addition, the aircraft can also carry FAB-250, FAB-500 and FAB-1500 combat bombs.
