There were no signs of casualties, but residents within a 5km radius of the incident had been evacuated, Mr Aksyonov said. It was not immediately clear whether the ammunition depot had been damaged.
Russia has an air base near Dzhankoi. Mr Aksyonov also said on the Telegram messaging app that “for safety reasons” rail and road traffic in the area had been suspended.
This is the second attack in three days in Crimea. It also comes just hours after Russia said several Ukrainian drones had attacked parts of the capital Moscow.
On Saturday, Mr. Aksyonov said a drone had caused an explosion at an ammunition depot in central Crimea, prompting authorities to evacuate nearby residents and halt road traffic on a bridge connecting the peninsula to mainland Russia.
