“American Airlines Flight 271 from Los Angeles to Maui experienced an incident upon landing,” American Airlines told CNN in a statement. “The aircraft taxied to the gate and passengers disembarked normally.”

Six injured people were taken to hospital and later released. There were 167 passengers and seven crew members on board. The plane was “taken out of service for inspection by our maintenance team,” American Airlines said.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation also confirmed to CNN that the airline “had a hard landing” at the airport on Saturday afternoon. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it would investigate the “hard landing,” according to a statement on its website.
“American Airlines Flight 271, an Airbus A320, made a hard landing on Runway 20 at Kahului Airport in Hawaii at approximately 2 p.m. local time,” the FAA statement read.
The flight was scheduled to land at 12:47 p.m., about 79 minutes before it actually arrived, according to the Maui airport. According to Kahului's information, as well as data from the flight-tracking website FlightAware, the plane was hovering in Los Angeles for more than an hour before takeoff.
It remains unclear why the airline spent so much time on the taxiway in Los Angeles before departure or whether the delay had anything to do with the difficult landing upon arrival.
