Thai Hoa as Bay Theo in the movie

The film is set during the Cedar Falls raid in 1967 that burned down large areas of the Cu Chi forest. The superiors assigned Bay Theo’s (Thai Hoa) team to protect the medicine box and the field hospital. To transport the medical equipment to the tunnel, the soldiers shed countless blood. Therefore, his team was even more determined to protect and hold the position until the end.

The underground tunnel setting and the ground sweeps were the obstacles that the film crew had to overcome, with the goal of recreating the tragic story of the heroic land of Cu Chi.

The trailer shows both heroic and fascinating footage: underground bunkers under oil lamps, extremely low tunnels that require bending over to walk, intricately interwoven...

The Cu Chi Tunnels are realistically recreated on the big screen. The aerial shots take the audience through the entire battlefield, with the smoke and fire from the bombs and bullets of the American tanks sweeping through and forcing the soldiers to surrender. Ba Huong (Ho Thu Anh) is exhausted after each sweep, while Tu Dap (Quang Tuan) has to directly race against the bullets, but they are still determined to fight to the end.

The poster of Tunnels: Sun in the Dark partly shows the humanity, comradeship and patriotism of the indomitable children of the South who overcame all difficulties and hardships, using the most primitive tools to build a scientific and magnificent military project.

Director Bui Thac Chuyen said that veterans told him many stories about humanity in the midst of war, so besides recreating the brutal truth of war, he also wanted to tell about the indomitable and heroic qualities of the Vietnamese people.

50 years since the war ended, the story of the heroic land of Cu Chi is one of the voices reminding that today's peace is not obvious or free.

The movie Tunnels: Sun in the Dark is expected to be released on April 4, 2025.
