Impersonating a lawyer, forging a notice from the Ministry of Finance to commit fraud

Recently, a number of Facebook accounts impersonating law firms and lawyers have appeared, posting many videos and articles with warnings about fraudulent methods and tricks to appropriate assets. These accounts include advertisements for services such as receiving documents, supporting the recovery of suspended money, recovering fraudulent money... with a commitment to only collect money after people have recovered the fraudulent money.

However, in reality, the goal of these subjects is to continue to scam the people who have been scammed once again.

Posing as a person who wanted to get their money back, the reporter contacted a Facebook account named Nguyen Khanh Law Firm (this Facebook account has the above signs). This Facebook account instructed the person who wanted to get their money back to talk directly with the Company's "lawyer" on Facebook named Nguyen Huy Khanh. After that, after exchanging only a few pieces of information such as: name, age, address, amount of money scammed... this subject confirmed that the scammed money was being held in the system and could be recovered.

Next, Facebook account Nguyen Huy Khanh "gathered" all those who wanted to get their money back from scams into a closed chat group on Facebook.

In this group, the account Nguyen Huy Khanh instructed people to deposit 3 million VND into the Company's account with the reason of confirming the account. This account also faked a notice from the Ministry of Finance to create trust for those who wanted to get their money back with the content: Below is the legal representative account number - linked to the system, please pay 3,000,000 VND, account name BINACA CRYPTO LLC, account number 66661994, Techcombank.

When the reporter gave some warnings to the people in the group, he was immediately kicked out of the chat group.

After learning more from some people in the group, we learned that someone had transferred money following the scammer's instructions and ended up in a situation of "losing both money and health".

Previously, Lawyer Nguyen Anh Tuan - Da Nang City Bar Association said that he and his law firm had encountered trouble with impersonators. According to Lawyer Tuan, he created two Facebook pages and a fanpage. Recently, Lawyer Tuan was contacted by a number of clients asking for advice: "Can lawyers get back money that was scammed on the Internet?" . Meanwhile, according to Lawyer Tuan, he has never once consulted or retrieved money for people who were scammed online... Lawyer Tuan learned that there were two Facebook accounts that used 23 images of him and his company, claiming to provide online advice for cases of money loss, getting back money that was scammed online... Lawyer Tuan then reported the incident to the police.

The above scams have been going on for a long time. The Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Public Security has advised people, especially victims who have been scammed and had their property stolen on the internet: Absolutely do not listen to or contact websites, fanpages, social network accounts advertising services of "receiving documents", "supporting the recovery of suspended money", "recovering fraudulent money"... on the internet; Do not transfer money to the above subjects for guidance and completing documents.

Currently, the Ministry of Public Security and related units do not coordinate or authorize any unit to guide or receive people's records about fraud and property appropriation cases via social networks. People need to go directly to the police agencies to report or send petitions and letters by post about fraud cases of which they are victims to be received and resolved.
