Pregnant with flu, what to do to not affect the fetus?

I am 14 weeks pregnant with my first child. Two days ago, I had a cough, fever and felt a little tired. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with the flu. Since I am pregnant, I am very worried that it will affect the baby. So what should I do to prevent this illness from affecting the baby?

Doctor replied:

Hello Ms. Tu!

When having a cold, pregnant women should combine some safety measures at home with a reasonable diet to help bring good results. Specifically:

+ Get enough rest: Pregnant women need to rest and get enough sleep to help the body recover and strengthen the immune system.

+ Drink plenty of water: Drink enough water to limit dehydration when having a high fever. The amount of water needed for the body each day is from 1.5-2 liters. Mixing honey and lemon can relieve flu symptoms.

+ Gargle and drop saline into your nose daily to disinfect, clear your airways, and prevent infection from spreading to the lower respiratory tract.

+ Keep your body warm, especially your nose and throat when the weather turns cold.

+ Liquid, watery dishes such as soup, vermicelli, pho... made from pork, beef, chicken bones to ensure adequate nutrition for both pregnant women and fetuses, and easy absorption and digestion.

+ Supplement essential vitamins and enhance the body's resistance such as: grapefruit, orange, tangerine, guava, strawberry, kiwi,...

+ Create a clean space: Keeping your living space clean and airy helps reduce feelings of discomfort.

+ Use medication safely: Use pain relievers and fever reducers such as paracetamol after consulting a doctor.

However, in case the above methods are used but the condition does not improve, or there are more serious symptoms such as high fever, chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, etc., pregnant women should go to medical facilities to be examined and treated promptly by specialized doctors to avoid possible unfortunate complications.

Friendly!
