Carrying poetry and songs far and wide.

"Oh, my homeland, the glory of my homeland!"

Báo Cần ThơBáo Cần Thơ23/04/2025

Our nation, for thousands and thousands of years!

Vietnam, a shining example of heroism.

"The sword of independence shines brightly in the sky" ("30 Years of Our Lives with the Party," To Huu)

The stirring verses recited resonated, adding to the profound and proud atmosphere of the cultural and sports exchange organized by the Can Tho City Retirement Club. And the person who contributed to conveying this emotion to everyone was artist Nguyen Thi Hong Nhan, a member of the Can Tho City Writers Association.

Artist Hong Nhan recited poetry at a cultural exchange event recently organized by the Can Tho City Retired Persons Club.

Artist Hong Nhan (born in 1958, residing in Tan An ward, Ninh Kieu district) is a familiar face at Lantern Festival poetry nights and cultural exchange programs in Can Tho City. She not only recites poetry beautifully but also possesses a sweet singing voice.

Originally from Thanh Oai, Hanoi , Ms. Hong Nhan moved to Can Tho with her husband in 1987. Her husband works in the police force, and she works in the welfare and logistics department of his unit. Besides her work, she loves the arts and has a talent for singing and reciting poetry, so she actively participates in cultural and artistic activities at her unit and in the local area. From the Ninh Kieu Poetry Club, the Tang Dynasty Poetry Club, to the Poetry Club of the Can Tho City Writers' Association… she is a member of all, specializing in reciting poetry. With her sweet and expressive recitation voice, along with her diligent self-study, learning, and practice, Ms. Hong Nhan has improved and become increasingly popular. She often recites famous poems about her homeland, the country, the Party, and President Ho Chi Minh… Besides performing in exchange programs and major events, she is also trusted by many authors and poets to recite their newly composed works or is invited to perform in exchange programs with students… Notably, for many years, she has been one of the poetry reciters invited to perform at the Lantern Festival poetry night in Can Tho City and neighboring provinces and cities… Ms. Nhan shared: “Because I love it, I taught myself how to recite poetry, rather than receiving formal training. Each time I perform, I not only immerse myself in the emotions of the poem and the author, but also in my own feelings. The beautiful and meaningful verses make my soul feel uplifted and moved, and when reciting, I hope to contribute to spreading the beauty and goodness of poetry to the audience.”

Ms. Nhan also participated in the Traditional Revolutionary Music Club of the Can Tho City Retirement Club for about 15 years, contributing to performing hundreds of artistic performances in many exchange activities, competitions, and festivals.

In addition, she has been practicing Tai Chi since 1999, starting as the head of the Tai Chi Club in the former An Lac Ward, gradually becoming the Vice President of the Tai Chi Association of Ninh Kieu District, and then the Vice President of the Tai Chi Association of Can Tho City. Currently, she is in charge of the city's Tai Chi and Martial Arts Team. Whether in sports, arts, poetry, or any other field, she has achieved many accomplishments and high awards in various competitions and performances.

Despite being active and involved in social activities, Ms. Nhan still ensures she takes care of her family, raises her children, and maintains a harmonious home. Her two daughters work in the police force, have their own families, and enjoy stable lives. Ms. Hong Nhan shared: “There were periods when our family's finances were very difficult, and I had to raise pigs, chickens, ducks, and grow vegetables to increase our income. My husband and I supported each other, encouraging each other to overcome these challenges and build a happy life, raising our children well and ensuring they receive a good education. In recent years, our family life has been fulfilling, and I have more time for arts, culture, and sports.”

Ms. Nhan added that the secret to a happy family and career success, besides continuous effort and striving, is to have a cheerful and optimistic attitude, as well as the care and understanding of family members.
