From a desolate land after the war, thanks to the correct identification and promotion of tourism potential, Mang Den plateau, Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province has now become a convergence point in the journey to explore the majestic Central Highlands of tourists from near and far. 50 years after the North-South reunification, the land with the fierce battlefields of Mang But, Mang Den, with 7 legendary lakes and 3 waterfalls in the past is now facing the opportunity to reach out to the sea when Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces are directed by the Central Government to merge.
Mang Den, a new convergence point on the journey to discover the majestic Central Highlands
Since mid-April, 142 accommodations with a total of more than 2,000 rooms in Mang Den town, Kon Plong district, Kon Tum province have been fully booked by tourists for the April 30 and May 1 holidays. In the hustle and bustle of Mang Den tourism today, it is hard to imagine that not long ago, the land of 7 lakes and 3 waterfalls was still very wild, mainly small paths with leeches and yellow flies lurking.
After the initial difficulties, Mang Den gradually affirmed its brand and became a convergence point in the journey to explore the majestic Central Highlands of tourists from near and far. Excitedly returning to this place during the historic April days, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung, a tourist from Hanoi, said that every year he arranges to travel to Mang Den 2 to 3 times. "Mang Den is soft, it feels like an 18-year-old girl to welcome all the boys from all over the country to come here to admire the beautiful scenery of Mang Den. Must come here to have fun with friends in this Mang Den land" - Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hung shared.
Mang Den - a place of captivating beauty and intoxicating humanity.
In the past three years, Mang Den - Kon Plong tourism has always been at a rapid growth rate, welcoming hundreds of thousands of tourists each year. Investors as well as tourists are constantly coming to this land and this is the driving force for Mang Den to change every day.
To create more attraction for Mang Den on the tourism map, in recent years Kon Tum province has prioritized investment in infrastructure, human resources and increased promotion and connection to form a tourism network both domestically and internationally.
Mr. Dang Dinh Toan, Head of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of Kon Plong district, said that with the orientation of sustainable tourism development associated with preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of local ethnic minorities, the district has initially formed technical and material facilities for tourism to serve tourists with over 142 accommodation establishments. Community accommodation is also a strength for Mang Den tourism to continue to be promoted when it becomes the center of the new province. “Ethnic minorities themselves have known how to promote the advantages of their families and houses to develop tourism services. Regarding tourism services and products, we focus on high-tech agricultural products and products with strong cultural features, such as Mang Den market, night-time economic zone, Mang Den art garden. The tourism products we aim for are tourism products about nature” - Mr. Dang Dinh Toan confidently shared.
Standing firmly on its own two feet, the legendary land of 7 lakes and 3 waterfalls in the past and Mang Den-Kon Plong tourism today are facing the opportunity to reach out to the ocean when Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces are directed by the Central Government to merge.
On April 15, the Standing Committees of Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces chose Mang Den to hold the first working session to discuss the province merger. Among the many contents discussed, the upgrading of the remaining 62km of National Highway 24 and accelerating the investment in the construction of the expressway were highly agreed upon by the leaders of the two provinces. Mr. Bui Viet Ha, Chairman of Mang Den Tourism Association, said that this is an extremely favorable condition for forest-sea tourism to increase its attraction and for Mang Den-Kon Plong tourism to take off.
“The merger of Quang Ngai and Kon Tum provinces has made tourism workers in Mang Den very happy. Mang Den is the tourism center of the new province, so we are confident that it will develop. Those working in tourism must be prepared to invest both effort and money to change the appearance of their facilities. Our tourism association is also calculating plans and clear directions to catch up with the trend of this land,” said Mr. Bui Viet Ha excitedly.
From a desolate land after the war, Mang Den-Kon Plong today has taken on a new appearance of peace, friendliness and vitality. The roads on the land of 7 lakes and 3 waterfalls are now bustling with tourists. From the policy of merging the two provinces of Quang Ngai and Kon Tum, Mang Den-Kon Plong is having the opportunity to reach out to the sea and affirm itself on the regional and international tourism map.
