A dish that has been "making waves" on social networking sites from Tiktok to Facebook, Instagram... recently is green mangosteen salad. Because of this, traders are rushing to buy and sell green mangosteen on social networking sites.
The price of this fruit has therefore been pushed up sky high. Accordingly, the price of a kilo of peeled green mangosteen is 10 times more expensive than regular mangosteen, ranging from 600,000 - 900,000 VND/kg. The price of this type when not peeled is about 50,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, equivalent to the price of ripe mangosteen.

The seller said that it takes 6-7 kg of green mangosteen to peel 1 kg of pulp to make salad. Moreover, peeling this type of fruit is not as easy as other fruits. Therefore, it is not surprising that the price is many times more expensive.
"Green mangosteen has a lot of latex, and the fruit is quite hard when unripe, making it difficult to peel. During the processing, it must be peeled under water to avoid darkening. To get 1kg of green mangosteen pulp, about 6-8kg of fruit must be peeled. That's why the price of green mangosteen with the skin intact and after processing is very different," this person said.
It is known that Lai Thieu mangosteen growers have created a unique and addictive dish, which is green mangosteen salad with chicken. The trend of preparing this dish has made green mangosteen more attractive to customers this year.

Despite its high price, this product sells very well because the preparation and peeling process is complicated and time-consuming, plus many customers are looking for it and looking to pre-order it. Another reason is that mangosteen only bears fruit in one season a year, which is summer.
Currently, most of the green mangosteens sold are pruned fruits that do not meet the standards on each tree or grade 3 products. Normally, at the garden, they will prune 1-2 kg of substandard fruits from each tree to save nutrients for the standard fruits. To buy in large quantities, traders have to collect from each garden.
Ms. Nguyen Thuong (Hoang Mai, Hanoi), who has sold hundreds of kilograms of green mangosteen in just the past 2 weeks, said that despite the high price, this fruit is still being ordered by many people, and there is not even enough stock to sell.
"Every year I only sell ripe mangosteens, but seeing that this fruit is so "hot", I also imported some to try selling. I didn't expect it to sell very well despite the high price. Because the preparation is complicated and time-consuming, almost everyone buys the pre-peeled kind. It's hard for me to meet all the customers' needs in one day," said Ms. Thuong.
Ms. Thuong also added that she can only peel about 15kg per day, and on a productive day she can only process 20kg. Currently, she has to ask her family members to help her so she can sell more.
Green mangosteens are picked from the tree early, ready to be delivered to buyers.
According to Ms. Thuong, green mangosteens are popular because there is a trend of selling and processing mangosteen chicken salad. This dish is a specialty of the Southeast region. Previously, only tourists could enjoy it when visiting places where mangosteens are grown, but now consumers in Ho Chi Minh City are looking to buy it.
According to a survey, green mangosteen is not sold at wholesale markets in Hanoi. Currently, this type of mangosteen that many people are looking for is only sold online.
