Which coach is the best?

There are a total of 3 Japanese and 3 Korean coaches in charge of the AFF Cup 2024. The Japanese coaches at this year's tournament are Masatada Ishii (Thailand), Tsutomu Ogura (Singapore) and Koji Gyotoku (Cambodia). The Korean coaches include Kim Sang-sik (Vietnam), Shin Tae-yong (Indonesia) and Ha Hyeok-jun (Laos).

The fact that many Southeast Asian teams are now employing Japanese and Korean coaches reflects a prevailing trend. Japanese and Korean coaches have the advantage of coming from countries that are geographically close to Southeast Asia and have similar cultures. In addition, in terms of expertise, Japan and Korea are among the top football nations in Asia, with a modern style of play, giving Southeast Asian teams much to learn from.

Reality also proves that Japanese and Korean coaches are very successful at the AFF Cup 2024. There are 2 Japanese coaches and 1 Korean coach who reached the semi-finals of this tournament, namely Mr. Masatada Ishii of the Thai team, Mr. Tsutomu Ogura of the Singapore team and Mr. Kim Sang-sik of the Vietnamese team. Then, in the final match, Mr. Masatada Ishii and Mr. Kim Sang-sik were the ones who directly competed for the championship, on the 2 fronts of the Thai and Vietnamese teams.

Vietnam team is ready to win the final match

The common point between these two coaches is that they help the teams they lead to play quite diversely with high speed and strong physical strength, true to the nature of Japanese and Korean football today.

Another common point is that both coach Masatada Ishii and Mr. Kim Sang-sik have built the forces of the Thai and Vietnamese teams in a way that can both ensure competition for the title at the AFF Cup 2024, and have the ability to aim for major tournaments such as the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers and the 2030 World Cup qualifiers, in the next few years. They have built the forces of the Thai and Vietnamese teams with a mix of stars, talented and experienced players, with young players who are hungry for success and have long-term value.

This is also the philosophy that Thai and Vietnamese football are pursuing. That is the reason why these football countries choose Japanese and Korean coaches, with the goal of raising the level of their national teams.

Regardless of the result of the 2024 AFF Cup final, coaches Kim Sang-sik and Masatada Ishii have initially completed their mission. The goal of the Vietnamese team is to reach the AFF Cup final this year, before striving for even higher. As for the Thai team, even if they lose to the Vietnamese team in the final of the Southeast Asian tournament, it will not be a disaster for Thai football. Thai football is in a transition period. Thailand hired coach Ishii for long-term plans, and so did the Vietnamese team!
