Malaysia has begun repatriating undocumented foreign workers under its migrant repatriation program from now until December 31, the News Strait Times reported.
These individuals are advised that upon return home they will not face legal action.
According to preliminary statistics, Malaysia currently has about 600,000 undocumented foreign workers. They may be those who were previously registered under the Workforce Adjustment Programme (WRP).
It allows employers to legalize workers and obtain permits in sectors such as manufacturing and construction. There are currently 848 cases registered to participate in the migrant repatriation program after the announcement by the Ministry of Interior.
