People of Chieng Chung commune, Mai Son district develop grass growing for livestock raising.
In Mai Son district, there are currently more than 11,000 livestock households with nearly 194,000 livestock of all kinds. The district has stepped up propaganda and instructed livestock households in the area to focus on cleaning barns, disinfecting, sterilizing and proactively vaccinating livestock and poultry.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Hao, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Mai Son district, said: The district has directed communes and towns to strengthen disease surveillance, speed up vaccination progress, especially for dangerous diseases such as foot and mouth disease, anthrax, African swine fever... At the same time, it has instructed livestock households to properly clean barns and ensure food for livestock to increase resistance.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that livestock farmers should not be subjective in disease prevention. When detecting abnormal signs in livestock, they should immediately report to the authorities and relevant agencies for timely handling. In particular, livestock farmers should not dump dead animals indiscriminately to avoid the risk of spreading disease. It is necessary to strictly follow disease control procedures, not buy, sell, or transport livestock and poultry of unknown origin.

From 2024 to present, specialized agencies, communes and towns in the district have organized 177 propaganda sessions with 8,847 participants on animal husbandry and veterinary medicine; trained 109 classes for 4,756 participants on techniques for raising and preventing diseases for cattle and buffaloes, techniques for treating livestock waste as fertilizer, watering plants, techniques for raising and preventing diseases for cattle and poultry, biosafety animal husbandry, techniques for planting, caring for grass and processing feed for large livestock. In addition, mobilize people to maintain planting and caring for more than 800 hectares of elephant grass, proactively storing agricultural by-products as animal feed. At the same time, inject 500 doses of African swine fever vaccine; 4,510 doses of lumpy skin disease vaccine for cattle and buffaloes; 29,725 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine; 180 doses of anthrax vaccine; 2,810 doses of anthrax vaccine; sprayed 1,493 liters of disinfectant chemicals to prevent and control epidemics, raising the vaccination rate for all types of epidemics to over 80% of the total herd for mandatory diseases.
Muong Chanh commune has nearly 1,500 buffaloes, cows, pigs and goats. From 2024 to now, the commune has vaccinated 700 doses of foot and mouth disease vaccine for buffaloes and cows; disinfected 100,000 m2. Therefore, from 2024 to now, there have been no epidemics in livestock in the commune. Mr. Hoang Van Thanh, Hom Loi village, Muong Chanh commune, shared: My family always follows the instructions of veterinary staff on disease prevention, such as: Regularly spraying disinfectant around the barn area; increasing hygiene, keeping the barn clean and dry; vaccinating on schedule, with enough doses; regularly monitoring the health of the livestock, promptly detecting sick animals for isolation and treatment. Therefore, more than 20 buffaloes and cows of the family are always healthy, growing well, bringing in a stable income.
In Muong Bang commune, there are over 2,900 livestock of all kinds. From the end of 2024 until now, the commune has vaccinated nearly 2,500 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine, disinfected 150,000 m² of livestock barns in the villages. Mr. Luong Van Dui, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, informed: The commune directed agricultural extension officers - veterinary officers to coordinate with the villages to propagate and guide livestock households to implement disease prevention measures for livestock, especially vaccinating livestock and poultry on schedule, with enough doses; when detecting livestock with diseases, notify the local authorities to take timely measures to prevent the spread of disease, causing damage to livestock in the commune.
Implementing well the work of disease prevention and control, since the beginning of the year, there has been no disease outbreak in livestock in Mai Son district. Not being negligent, professional agencies, communes, towns and livestock households in Mai Son district continue to synchronously implement measures to prevent and control diseases, protect livestock and poultry, contributing to sustainable agricultural development and increasing income for households.
