At the Provincial Social Protection and Social Work Center (Department of Health), homeless elderly people, people with severe disabilities, orphans, seriously ill children, abandoned children, etc. always live in the protection, nurturing, and attentive care of the staff here. The common home of the sponsored subjects is always filled with love, concern, and sharing from kind hearts.
For more than 10 years, Ms. Pham Thi Loan has been working at the Center, all the time she has worked hard day and night to take care of the subjects. Holding and caring for the abandoned baby girl adopted by the Center, Ms. Loan said that the baby is just over 3 months old, has Down syndrome and many serious illnesses: no anus, anemia, kidney disease, premature and underweight... She had to undergo surgery to open her anus. Currently, every morning she is still taken to a central hospital for treatment. I and another staff member are assigned to take care of her regularly.
In a place where unfortunate people from all walks of life are brought here to be nurtured and cared for, without love, it would be difficult for the staff to stay long-term. Among the 90 subjects being nurtured, there are 4 orphans, 30 lonely elderly people with no place to rely on, and 56 people with disabilities. The disabled subjects are all severely disabled such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, motor disabilities, visual impairment, muteness, deafness, mental disorders, and hyperactivity. Many children cannot control their behavior and can injure themselves and those around them. Therefore, nurturing, caring for, and looking after them every day is very hard, and some children need a separate care regimen. In addition to feeding, looking after, and reminding them of bedtime, the staff's job is to do laundry, clean rooms, etc. However, the staff here still choose to stick with this special job with compassion, hoping to make up for the disadvantaged fate of the subjects.
For the lonely elderly who have no place to rely on, this place has become a warm home for their loved ones, the staff and employees of the Center. The subjects who are adopted at the Center mostly do not have family members to visit them. They are nurtured, cared for, and talked to in a loving common home. People with underlying diseases are taken to medical facilities every month for examination and treatment. Ms. Nguyen Thi Man, over 90 years old, has been accepted and cared for at the Center for more than 10 years. Ms. Man said, the staff here regularly asks about my health, when I am sick, I get a medical examination and medicine; I eat well, make friends with people in the same situation, and loneliness is gone. It is difficult to measure the hardships of the job, but the staff, employees, and workers are always attached to their work with dedication and love, helping the unfortunate to overcome the barriers of life.
Mr. Bui Kim Thang, Deputy Director in charge of the Provincial Center for Social Protection and Social Work, said: "With the spirit of overcoming difficulties, a kind heart and responsibility for work, officers and employees always strive and try their best in every job so that those who are received and nurtured here feel that the Center is a common home, a big family". The Center is also cared for and "supported" by philanthropists, agencies and organizations. On holidays and Tet, the subjects are visited and given gifts by authorities, groups and charitable organizations come to give them more household items, food... Those are warm and loving feelings to help the Center share the hardships and disadvantages of the subjects here.
Coming to the Provincial Social Protection and Social Work Center, witnessing what is happening here, I admire the hearts of the staff here and feel the practical meaning that the Center has brought to the disadvantaged. Overcoming the pressures and hardships of work, the staff are attached to their work with heart, love and responsibility to help children, lonely elderly people and disabled people feel the warmth of humanity and live in full love.
