After 17 years of implementation, the "Trade Union Shelter" program launched by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has truly created a widespread influence, attracting a large number of union members and workers in the province to participate. Through that, many "trade union shelters" have been initiated, helping workers and laborers have a shelter to stabilize their lives.
It is difficult to describe the joy and happiness of Ms. Nguyen Thi Sen (Tan Duong 1 village, Ninh Van commune, Hoa Lu district) when she received 30 million VND in support from the Trade Union at all levels to have more funds to build a new, solid house.
Ms. Sen is currently a union member of He Duong Cement Joint Stock Company, in especially difficult circumstances, unable to build a house.
Looking at the house that is gradually being completed, Ms. Sen excitedly said: Before, my family had to live in a level 4 house that was seriously degraded, leaking when it rained and hot when it was sunny. When I was worried and confused about when I would have money to build a new house to avoid the rain and sun, I was fortunate to receive love and encouragement from all levels of the Trade Union and philanthropists, brothers, neighbors and the sharing of colleagues. Up to now, I have fulfilled my dream, built a new solid house so that I can live and work in peace.
Just like Ms. Sen, life with so many troubles and difficulties made Ms. Van Thi Vinh (Gia Lac commune, Gia Vien district), currently a worker at Sanico Vietnam Co., Ltd., never think of the day when she could live in a new, spacious and solid house. Ms. Vinh's family is poor, her husband has a mental illness, and the house is in a flood-prone commune so it is often flooded...
However, thanks to the support of 50 million VND from the "Union Shelter" program and the help of her brothers and relatives, her long-standing dream has now come true. Living in a new house, she has more motivation to improve her life and work.
Building a "Union Shelter" is one of the important targets set by the 15th Congress of the Ninh Binh Provincial Trade Union, term 2018 - 2023. In recent years, the Trade Unions at all levels in the province have always paid attention to and created favorable conditions to help workers and union members have a shelter to settle down, feel secure in their attachment to enterprises and trade union organizations...
Regularly grasp and survey the housing situation, life, employment, and income of union members and workers to promptly support, share, and join hands to build and repair houses for union members and workers with difficult housing circumstances in the area.
With various sources of mobilization, over the past 5 years, the Trade Unions at all levels in the province have supported the construction and repair of 124 "Trade Union Shelters" with a total amount of over 4.3 billion VND, reaching 332% of the target set by the 15th Ninh Binh Provincial Trade Union Congress, term 2018 - 2023; helping workers have housing, ensuring basic requirements and functionality to stabilize their lives and work with peace of mind.
The use of support funds is guaranteed to be public, transparent; to the right subjects, for the right purposes. In addition, the Trade Union at all levels also supports and guides union members and workers to access preferential loans for house construction and repair according to Decree 100 of the Government from the Social Policy Bank with 50 newly built houses, the total loan amount with low interest rates is over 13 billion VND.
It can be said that joining hands to build "Union Shelters" to help workers and laborers in difficult circumstances has become a tradition of the working class and the Trade Union. With that joining hands, more workers have been able to live in new, spacious and warm houses, contributing to sharing difficulties, giving them more motivation to overcome their circumstances and rise up in life.
Comrade Tran Kim Long, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Labor, said: In the coming time, the Trade Unions at all levels in the province will continue to promote propaganda about the purpose and significance of the "Trade Union Shelter" house building program; actively call for support from agencies, units and enterprises so that there will be more and more "Trade Union Shelters", helping workers and laborers overcome housing difficulties, thereby contributing to the effective implementation of the national target program on sustainable poverty reduction.
