Ly Hoang Nam won the tennis tournament in Thailand

On the morning of February 25, Ly Hoang Nam (ranked 459th on ATP) competed in the final of the M15 Nakhon Si Thammarat tennis tournament in Thailand. His opponent was Sander Jong from the Netherlands, ranked 599th on the ATP rankings.

On the way to the final, both players caused a surprise when they eliminated the two top seeds of the tournament, Orel Kimhi (Israel) and Yan Bai (China).

Both players served well at the beginning of the match. Then, Ly Hoang Nam increased the pressure on Sander Jong. In the 9th game, Ly Hoang Nam won when the Dutch player held the serve. However, Hoang Nam could not maintain the advantage when his opponent broke the game immediately after.

The two players decided set 1 in a tie-break. Sander Jong won 7-4 and led Hoang Nam 1-0.

In set 2, Sander Jong continuously went to the net to win Ly Hoang Nam's serve game. However, the Vietnamese player kept his composure, defended effectively at the back of the court and continued to take this set to a tie-break. Hoang Nam won 7-2 to tie the match at 1-1.

In set 3, the two players competed fiercely in each game. From game 7 to 9, the two players took turns breaking. In which, Hoang Nam won Sander Jong's serve twice to win 6-4, thereby winning 2-1 overall.

Ly Hoang Nam won his first championship since October 2022. It was even more special when he won this trophy on his birthday.

Ly Hoang Nam got 10 more points on the ATP rankings.
