On the afternoon of April 22, the reality TV show Rookie of the Year debuted with the appearance of the top 30 trainees and three producers: Soobin Hoang Son, Toc Tien and Kay Tran - who will play a key role in finding the idol group.

The program is divided into two routes. The first route, called Project 100%, is the phase of selecting, training and coaching trainees for 100 days, broadcast on YouTube. The second route, called All-round Rookie, will be broadcast on VTV3 from September 2025.

During the launch, Kay Tran defined her role as a "companion" and "sympathizer" to the contestants.

Kay Tran emphasized the advantage of being a "newbie" and having worked as an intern on survival shows, so he understands how the program works. With more than 10 years of experience, Kay Tran is confident that he can help contestants with stage presence, how to win over the audience, and how to express their charisma in front of the camera.

Unlike Kay Tran, Toc Tien admitted that she was initially confused by the title "omnipotent producer" because she was not a producer like Soobin. "When I received the invitation to participate in the program, the title 'omnipotent producer' made me a bit confused. If I am a true music producer, I am not really a producer," Toc Tien shared.

However, after being introduced to the program, Toc Tien decided to participate because she continued her passion for the profession after Chi dep dap gio . The female singer identified her role as "the one who spreads the fire", which is suitable for the journey she has gone through.

Although Toc Tien is the only female among the three producers, this is her strength. "Standing from a woman's perspective looking at a boy band will bring a more feminine, softer perspective, a 'soft power' compared to the 'very top' perspectives of the boys," she shared.

The female singer revealed that she once dreamed of becoming a member of an idol group to compete in the international arena but had not yet realized it. "When I joined Rookie of the Year , I saw this as an opportunity to fulfill my dream, even though I was not a member of the group but stood behind the scenes," she shared.

Soobin Hoang Son shared that the reason for joining the program is to find a successor for the country's music industry. The male singer observed the development trend of world music with many young bands and artists being debuted and hoped that Vietnam would have the same. He expressed his hope that after the program ended, he would find young, all-rounded artists who could meet all audience criteria.

When asked about the criteria for selecting candidates, Soobin pointed out three main points: similar musical tastes, diligence and a unique voice. "I always want to find a unique voice, one that is innovative and rare in Vietnam," he emphasized.

All three talented producers emphasized the importance of teamwork in a group. The combination of individuality and teamwork was chosen by all three producers as the deciding factor in whether a group can last long.

In addition to the 3 producers, the program also has a team of Korean experts, led by Mr. Hyuk Shin - Director of Training and Development. He identified 4 criteria for selecting candidates: dancing and performance ability, vocal and rap ability, visual and star factor.

Mr. Hyuk Shin assessed that the top 30 contestants are performing better than expected and expressed high expectations. Although the vocal teachers were a little worried about the contestants' abilities in the third week of the program, he believes that the contestants are adapting well and will keep up with the program.
