Although not in crisis, Volvo still needs to be well prepared to deal with the fluctuations of the auto industry. |
During his interim term, Mr Samuelsson will be responsible for maintaining the company’s direction and supporting Volvo in its search for the right new leader to lead the company into the long term. The Volvo Board of Directors believes that Mr Samuelsson’s extensive experience in the automotive industry and deep understanding of the brand will help the company navigate this challenging period.
The Volvo car brand is currently owned by the Geely Group (China). The company once set a goal of becoming an all-electric car brand by 2030. However, the company has now adjusted its strategy, instead of switching completely to electric cars, the company will continue to produce and sell internal combustion engine cars with electric motor support, in addition to pure electric models.

This is considered a more practical step in the context of the electric car market still in the transition phase and facing major challenges in terms of infrastructure, production costs and consumer demand.
Volvo Chairman Eric Li welcomed Samuelsson’s return, noting that he had led the Swedish carmaker through a crucial decade of revitalization and expansion . Samuelsson, meanwhile, expressed his readiness to face the challenges ahead, saying the auto industry was under pressure from many sides and Volvo needed a clear direction to continue to grow sustainably.
