Recently, candidate Darwin Jalil (currently vice president of Balestier Khalsa Club) sent a complaint to the World Football Federation (FIFA) denouncing the irregularities that occurred during the election preparation process.
Darwin Jalil's election team, called "Football First", has nine members. Darwin Jalil is running for the FAS president position, while his colleague Neo Gim Chye is aiming for the vice-president position. And it all started when the FAS election committee disqualified Darwin Jalil's team from the election, saying they were "ineligible" to participate in the upcoming election on April 28.
Specifically, the FAS election committee said that Neo Gim Chye did not meet the requirements of the FAS charter. Therefore, Mr. Darwin Jalil's team was disqualified. Mr. Darwin Jalil affirmed that this reason was incorrect and decided to ask FIFA to intervene.
The removal of Darwin Jalil means that technology billionaire and Lion City Sailors Club chairman Forrest Li will become the new FAS chairman for the 2025-2029 term due to the lack of competition.
But then Mr. Darwin Jalil detailed a series of events that he said “exposed irregularities in the electoral process.” And Mr. Darwin Jalil submitted these details to FIFA.
"Although we have passed the deadline for the election, we are still waiting for justice to be served. This is because we feel that our removal from the electoral roll is unfair," Darwin Jalil told the Straits Times (Singapore).
Meanwhile, Mr. Forrest Li did not comment on this controversy but only shared about his upcoming goals for Singapore football. Mr. Forrest Li said: "Football is more than just a sport . It is a great force to uplift and unite the community. As the association's chairman, my mission is to bring joy and pride back to Singapore football."
