The Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance will postpone the adjustment of retail gasoline prices from September 1 to September 5, which is the first working day after the September 2 holiday.
Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Domestic Market Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance will adjust retail gasoline prices on the first working day after the September 2 holiday, instead of September 1 as usual.
According to Decree 95/2021/ND-CP on petroleum trading, September 1 is the date for adjusting domestic petroleum retail prices. However, due to coinciding with a holiday according to State regulations, it will be moved to the first working day after the holiday, which is September 5.
Currently, the selling price of gasoline and oil today, August 30, is being applied according to the price at the management session on the afternoon of August 21 of the Ministry of Finance - Industry and Trade.
Specifically, the price of E5 RON92 gasoline increased to 23,339 VND/liter, and RON95 gasoline to 24,601 VND/liter.
Diesel oil price decreased by 71 VND/liter compared to the current retail price, down to 22,354 VND/liter. In contrast, kerosene price increased by 420 VND/liter, up to 22,309 VND/liter and fuel oil price increased by 313 VND/kg compared to the current retail price, not higher than 17,981 VND/kg.
On the world market, gasoline prices are on the rise.
Specifically, according to data from Oilprice, at 9:26 a.m. on August 30 (Vietnam time), Brent oil was trading at $85.81 per barrel, up $0.32, or 0.37%, from the previous session. WTI oil was at $81.54 per barrel, up $0.38, or 0.47%.
Oil prices rose again today due to concerns about reduced supply following an oil tank fire at a US refinery.
Marathon Petroleum Corp. plans to shut down its Garyville refinery, the third-largest in the United States, after a tank fire over the weekend. The plant produces about 265,000 barrels of gasoline a day, or about 3 percent of total U.S. consumption. Garyville also produces about 230,000 barrels of diesel a day. The plant has a crude processing capacity of 596,000 barrels a day.
Oil prices were also supported by a report from the American Petroleum Institute (API) showing that US crude oil inventories fell sharply last week, indicating strong demand. Specifically, in the week ending August 25, US crude oil reserves fell "shockingly" by 11.5 million barrels, more than three times the estimate of analysts polled by Reuters (down 3.3 million barrels). Also according to API, gasoline inventories increased by 1.40 million barrels; distillate inventories increased by 2.46 million barrels.
