Vietnamese rescue forces join in overcoming the consequences of the earthquake in Myanmar: Continuing to implement measures with the highest determination

5 bodies of victims were brought out on the second day

On April 1, the Vietnam People's Army's rescue force participating in supporting earthquake relief in Myanmar organized a search and brought out the bodies of 5 victims buried in the rubble of buildings and hospitals in the capital Naypyidaw.

During the rescue operation at two collapsed buildings in the Bala Tidi area of ​​Zabu Thiri district, the team brought out the bodies of four victims, including a couple. The fifth body was found at the Naypyidaw Capital Hospital building.

The collapsed building in the Bala Tidi area had previously been visited by three foreign rescue teams, but they all gave up halfway. Because the buildings had completely collapsed, using equipment to separate and drill concrete could easily cause the structure to collapse, endangering the rescue team. To get the victims out, heavy equipment such as bulldozers and excavators would be needed, but these conditions cannot be met in Naypyidaw at the moment.

The Vietnamese team used sniffer dogs, wall-penetrating radar and image search equipment to determine the victim's exact location.

When the force arrived at building 2386 in the Bala Tidi area, Ms. Meme Cho said that the person trapped and killed in the collapsed building was Mr. U Maung Tin, 74 years old, her father. The 4-storey building where Mr. U Maung Tin lived consisted of 4 families. When the earthquake occurred, there were only the old man, the old woman and the young grandchild in the house, while the children were all at work. The young grandchild was also trapped inside, and after the earthquake, he was rescued by local rescue forces in a state of losing a leg.

After more than 4 hours of non-stop work, the Vietnamese engineering team was able to remove U Maung Tin's body from the rubble and the medical team handed it over to his family for funeral arrangements.

Rescue a trapped survivor

On the third day of participating in the CHCN in Myanmar, yesterday (April 2), the Vietnamese forces divided into three groups to search at Ottara Thiri Hospital. Previously, the rescue team of the Vietnam People's Army was provided with a detailed map of the hospital and locations where victims were suspected to be trapped by doctors; at the same time, it was said that there were likely 14-20 victims in the hospital. Police dogs and wall-penetrating radar effectively supported the rescue team.

Entering the 6th day since the disaster, the heat is still intense, nearly 40 degrees Celsius, the smell of death pervades the air, making it suffocating. While carrying out rescue work at Ottara Thiri Hospital in the capital Naypyidaw, the Vietnamese rescue team received information that an earthquake victim was still alive and trapped in the rubble. Immediately, the Vietnamese team sent a 6-member engineering team to the scene to coordinate with other rescue forces to find a way to approach and rescue the victim.

At 2:00 p.m. yesterday (April 2), the Vietnam People's Army rescue force, in coordination with the rescue forces of Myanmar and Türkiye, successfully rescued a young man trapped inside the Aye Chan Thar Hotel in the capital Naypyidaw.

The rescued person was Htet Maung Maung, 26 years old, a chef at the hotel. The victim's health was quite good, because he had previously received IV fluids from the rescue team.

Mr. U Myint Lin, the victim’s father, said: “On the day of the earthquake, my family was at home, while my son was working at the hotel. For nearly a week, the family had not received any news about my son. It was only this morning that we were informed that my son was still alive.”

“We will continue to deploy measures with the highest determination to soon find the missing victims in the hospital and ease the pain for the local people. This is also the sentiment and responsibility of the Vietnam People’s Army’s CHCN delegation to the country and people of Myanmar,” said Major General Pham Van Ty, head of the Vietnam People’s Army’s CHCN delegation.

Also yesterday, April 2, the Ministry of Public Security's CHCN team coordinated with local units to search for victims at building 2204 in Zabuthiri town and found the bodies of 2 people (84 and 56 years old). So far, the team has found 3 bodies. Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong, Head of the rescue team of the Ministry of Public Security, presented 3 tons of medicine and medical equipment to Mr. Sa Weli Frag, Director of the Department of Disaster Management, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement of Myanmar, with the desire to provide medical support to the neighboring country to overcome the difficult period.

At present, tens of thousands of Myanmar people are still living in the open, without electricity, clean water, basic necessities and medical care. Therefore, the team sent a group to set up 2 tents to support people with shelter from the sun and dew. At the same time, the medical team of the rescue team also organized medical examinations and distributed medicine to people injured by the earthquake.
