Contribute to building shelters for the poor

Under the hot early summer sun, border guards from the Han River Port Border Guard Station (Da Nang Port Border Guard Command) worked hard with the people of Thuan Phuoc Ward, Hai Chau District, to build a house for Ms. Tong Thi Huong, a poor, single-parent household in extremely difficult circumstances.

Not only are the border guards firmly in hand to protect the sea and border gates, they are also dedicated construction workers, ready to contribute their efforts and labor to help people have sturdy and spacious houses before the rainy and stormy season.

This is an activity within the program "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" implemented by the Da Nang City Border Guard, demonstrating the spirit of mutual love and social responsibility of the armed forces to the community.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Luan, Head of the Border Guard Station at the Han River Port, since the beginning of the year, soldiers have been fully supporting working days to build and repair houses for 7 poor households in Thanh Binh and Thuan Phuoc wards, Hai Chau district.

"Each completed house is not only a place to live, but also a symbol of the close military-civilian relationship at the forefront, contributing to consolidating the solid "people's hearts" in the city on the Han River," Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Luan shared.

Or in the high mountainous area bordering Quang Nam province, soldiers of the Nam Giang International Border Gate Border Guard Station and the La Dee Commune Youth Union are still persistently leveling the ground, preparing the land to rebuild a new house for Mrs. Hien Nhias, the unit's adoptive mother.

Mr. Nhias, 77 years old, Ta Rieng ethnic, has lived alone for many years in Dac Ooc village, La Dee commune. The army helped him repair his house after the flood in 2023. However, by the end of 2024, the house was severely damaged again.

Captain Tran Phuoc Quang, Secretary of the Youth Union of Nam Giang International Border Guard Station, shared: "In order to ensure a safe place to live, the Youth Union has advised on choosing Nhias's household as the first temporary house removal point in 2025. With the cooperation of soldiers and benefactors, 60 million VND was mobilized to build a solid level 4 house. Hopefully, the new house will help him live in peace in his old age, the unit continues to call on benefactors to support the construction of a new house for him to be more spacious."

Not only in the case of Mr. Nhias, for many years, the unit has actively participated in supporting the demolition and construction of houses for people in difficult circumstances in the border area, spreading the warm military-civilian relationship in the mountains and forests of Nam Giang.

Soon complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses

According to the Department of Construction of Da Nang City, the People's Committee of Da Nang City has set a goal of striving to complete the elimination of 2,043 temporary and dilapidated houses before September 2.

To date, Da Nang City has completed the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for 1,098 households, reaching 53.7%. Specifically, 587/975 houses for meritorious people; 443/775 houses for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses; 68/293 houses for other households.

The Department of Construction of Da Nang City has researched and proposed specific criteria for determining temporary and dilapidated houses in the City in a direction that is higher than the Central standard but still suitable for the actual living conditions of the city and each locality. The Department of Construction has coordinated with the Institute of Construction Planning and the Construction Engineering Consulting Center to prepare design documents with estimates for 7 house models.

At the end of March, the City People's Committee had a unified policy for 7 house models, and assigned the People's Committees of communes and wards to coordinate with the Youth Union in the area to deploy to poor households, near-poor households, and people with revolutionary contributions for reference, selection, and research to apply and build suitable to the specific circumstances of each household.

Quang Nam province aims to complete the construction and repair of more than 6,000 houses by October 2025, with priority given to completing more than 1,180 houses of people with revolutionary contributions and martyrs' relatives, especially 449 newly built houses before July 27, 2025.

The Provincial People's Committee requested the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to further strengthen leadership and direction, and issue detailed implementation plans associated with roadmaps and completion progress for each specific target group.
