This year is the 18th year the Award has been held, with many new members in both the Preliminary and Final Councils. The work of organizing the Award was carried out in a systematic and methodical manner by the Award's General Secretariat, attracting the active and enthusiastic participation of all levels of the Association, press agencies, journalist members and collaborators nationwide.
The number of entries to the Award reached a high level.
Speaking at the opening of the final round, comrade Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Chairman of the Final Round Council said: The National Press Award is a major event that attracts special attention from the press nationwide, is the most prestigious award for press works, honoring authors and groups of authors with the best works every year.
Comrade Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association delivered the opening speech of the Final Round.
This year, the National Press Awards has entered its 18th season, accompanying the life of journalism, becoming a truly beneficial place for professional activities, spreading widely in all levels of the Association, in the press community and increasingly affirming its reputation as the most prestigious professional award for Vietnamese journalists.
The number of entries to this year's Awards is still the highest in recent years. The Award Council's support committees have made efforts to implement the work on schedule, ensuring the requirements of the award organization process. The 73 members of the Preliminary Council, divided into 11 Subcommittees, worked with professionalism and a high sense of responsibility, strictly implementing the Charter, Guidelines and Award Judging Regulations, conducting appraisal, scoring and submitting to the Final Council a list of 165 entries in 11 award categories, selected from 1,905 entries.
According to comrade Le Quoc Minh: The works submitted to the Award have closely followed major topics from politics, economics, culture, society, security, defense and aspects of life in 2023. The press has promptly and vividly reflected major events and important issues of the country with prominent topics such as efforts to implement the 2023 socio-economic development plan and the 2020-2030 socio-economic development strategy.
The council members will discuss carefully and impartially select outstanding works.
Party building and rectification; inspection, supervision and control of power associated with the fight against corruption and negativity; fighting against wrong and hostile viewpoints; upholding the spirit of great national unity. Topics on history, commemorating important events of the country.
Many press agencies have innovated, approached modern journalism technology, developed multi-platform, multimedia journalism and creative forms of journalism to increase appeal and public accessibility; accelerated the digital transformation in the field of journalism and media. Thanks to that, in addition to central press agencies, some local newspapers and radio stations have also changed the way they choose topics and themes and implemented them in a new and modern way, which was highly appreciated by the Preliminary Council for both quality and form of expression.
Ensuring objectivity, impartiality, and clarity, selecting the best works
Comrade Le Quoc Minh emphasized: "This is an honor and also a heavy responsibility of the Final Jury, to ensure objectivity, impartiality, and wisdom, to select the best works among the finalists, exemplary in both content and form of expression. Addressing truly important issues of the country, ensuring political-ideological, orientational, and truthfulness, having a positive and strong social impact, worthy of awarding the 18th National Press Award - 2023 on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day on June 21, towards the milestone of 100 years of Vietnam Revolutionary Press in 2025".

"The members of the Final Jury are experienced, enthusiastic and highly prestigious journalists. Many of them have participated in the final judging of many national journalism awards in recent years, are steadfast in their ideology, professionally proficient, objective in evaluating and discovering good works, and authors who are professionally proficient, with the courage and spirit of dedication to journalism," emphasized comrade Le Quoc Minh.
On behalf of the National Press Awards Council, comrade Le Quoc Minh requested the members of the Final Jury, with the highest sense of responsibility, to actively discuss thoroughly and accurately and impartially evaluate the works in the final round, ensuring persuasiveness to the public and colleagues nationwide.

Accordingly, the 18th National Press Award - 2023 since its launch has received positive responses from all levels of the Association and individual journalists and members; attracting the participation of 18/21 Inter-Association Branches and 30/223 affiliated Branches, 63/63 Provincial and Municipal Journalists Associations, with 1,905 works submitted to participate in the award.
Of these, 1,827 works met the requirements. The number of works by authors who are not members of the Vietnam Journalists Association was 127. This shows the strong attraction of the Award and the interest and positive response of members and all levels of the Vietnam Journalists Association nationwide.
The preparation work was carried out by the Award's General Secretariat in accordance with the regulations, instructions, and schedule, creating favorable conditions for the evaluation of works by the Preliminary Subcommittees. This year, the National Press Award continues to deploy the online evaluation form via the evaluation software of the Vietnam Journalists Association for electronic, radio, and television press works, in addition to the direct evaluation of printed and photo press works...
Council members also discussed and approved many important contents.
At the working session held this morning, the National Press Awards Final Jury approved the preliminary results report; the Jury discussed and gave opinions on the works, the judging process and other related issues. The members of the Jury also discussed and approved the voting format of the Final Jury; through the vote counting committee, conducted the voting; discussed the innovation of the organization of this year's Award Ceremony... The Jury discussed, scored and agreed on the selection of the types of awards.
