Pig prices increase, farmers cautious when re-herding

Việt NamViệt Nam20/03/2025

Currently, the price of live pigs in Vinh Phuc province has increased sharply, reaching more than 70,000 VND/kg, the highest price in recent times. With this price, both small-scale farmers and cooperatives and livestock enterprises are excited because livestock farming is profitable.

The increase in live pig prices is due to the high demand for pork while the supply is limited. Many farms and households in the area are boosting production to meet market demand, but prices remain high. According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the whole province has more than 490,000 pigs; over 1,370 pig farms, accounting for 4.6% of the number of households and nearly 47% of the total pig herd in the province, mainly concentrated in Lap Thach and Yen Lac districts. To ensure effective pig herd restoration and avoid the risk of disease outbreaks, the Department of Agriculture and Environment recommends that farmers should not restore their herds en masse.

Strengthening the hygiene of barns, using farming tools, spraying disinfectants, disinfecting, ensuring barns are always clean and airy to prevent pathogens. In addition, people should buy breeding animals from reputable establishments, with clear origins, ensuring quality, absolutely not buying floating breeding animals without verifying the origin, improving productivity, managing the herd, ensuring appropriate breeding density, reducing labor.
