With both parents being famous professors and lecturers, Vi Than (born in 1991 in Shandong, China) showed a talent for mathematics from a young age. He often solved difficult math problems with his father while his peers were busy with children's toys.

During his school years, Vi Than amazed his friends and teachers with his logical thinking and outstanding analytical ability. The boy from Son Dong was the school representative in many large and small Math competitions. The higher the level of education, the more outstanding Vi Than's achievements became.
Not only has he won many domestic awards, Vi Than has also won a series of awards in international competitions. He represented the Chinese team and won a perfect score in the final round of the 2008 International Mathematical Olympiad. After graduating, Harvard University spent a lot of money to invite Vi Than to teach in the US, but he refused and continued to stay and contribute to the development of his homeland.

Earn billions but very frugal

Based on his own ability, Vi Than can easily earn 600,000 yuan (more than 2 billion VND) per month. However, this young man surprised many people when he only spent less than 300 yuan (equivalent to 1 million VND) per month. Few people believe that with such a small amount of money, Vi Than can live in Beijing - one of the most expensive cities in China.

Sharing with the Chinese press, Vi Than said he wanted to lead a simple lifestyle. None of the clothes he wears are branded, most are old clothes, worn over and over again for many years. He also does not eat lavishly, instead, he only eats a bun and a bottle of water. Notably, after many years of accumulating assets, Vi Than has not bought a house or a car.
The math genius once refused to accept a cash prize worth up to 140,000 USD (equivalent to 3.5 billion VND) from a leading famous corporation in China.
When asked about money and fame, Vi Than once answered very briefly that all he cared about was simply Mathematics.
Vi Than's lifestyle has been the subject of discussion on forums many times. Some people criticize the genius for being eccentric, but others believe that everyone can live the way they want and we need to respect Vi Than.
