(NLDO) – Contrary to expectations of improvement, the stock market last week lost all of the previous week's points.
VN-Index currently closed at 1,254.59 points, down 20.55 points; HNX Index stopped at 225.66 points, down 3.48 points compared to the end of last week.
The stocks that contributed to the market's notable increase were VTP, VGC, CTR, BCM, NVL... The stocks that caused the VN-Index to decrease were CTG, TCB, BID, MWG, VPB...
Liquidity dropped sharply compared to last weekend, when the transaction value on HOSE decreased by nearly 20%, the lowest in the past 20 weeks. Foreign investors have not stopped their net selling trend with more than 780 billion VND on HOSE.
Many investors expressed frustration, reducing stock trading at the end of the year and shifting part of their capital to other investment channels such as savings, gold purchases, etc.
Mr. Vo Kim Phung, Head of Analysis Department, BETA Securities Company, commented that last week, the market witnessed strong selling pressure, especially in the last session of the week, causing the VN-Index to fall sharply by 1.61% compared to the previous week. The decline in liquidity showed cautious sentiment and cash flow waiting on the sidelines. Strong net selling from foreign investors continued to increase market pressure.
The stock market has been performing poorly in recent days.
"The market is experiencing certain fluctuations with liquidity remaining at a low level. For short-term investors, risk management is a prerequisite; limit the use of financial leverage and prioritize a safe investment portfolio structure. For long-term investors, the current corrections may be the right time to accumulate stocks with good fundamentals but do not rush to buy stocks at the bottom but carefully buy stocks" - Mr. Vo Kim Phung said.
Pinetree Securities Company believes that the USD strength index soaring to a two-year peak of over 109 points was a negative catalyst that caused the VN-Index to sell off at the end of the week. With the exchange rate still tense and foreign investors returning to strong net selling last week, investors' concerns next week may not be able to ease immediately.
"An important psychological support factor for investors at this time is that the profit results of banks are gradually being revealed, especially positive expectations about credit growth. Recently, Agribank was the first to announce an 8% increase in pre-tax profit. In a positive scenario, the VN-Index could return to the 1,240 point area and accumulate, waiting for new cash flow to join to start the next recovery trend" - said an expert from Pinetree Securities.
