TPO - In Ho Chi Minh City today, a series of projects in the fields of culture and sports are in a state of sluggish construction, many places have been abandoned for many years.
A series of cultural and sports projects in Ho Chi Minh City are still on paper after many years of planning. In the photo is the Symphony, Music and Ballet Theater project in Thu Thiem New Urban Area (Thu Duc City) with a scale of 1,700 seats, next to Ba Son Bridge, 10,030m2 wide and a surrounding green park of more than 10,000m2 wide. This project has been approved for investment with a total capital of 1,988 billion VND in the form of public investment. |
Right on the main roads in Ho Chi Minh City, many stages and cultural and artistic centers have seriously degraded and become deserted, making the urban landscape ugly. A typical example is the complex of multi-purpose children's cultural center and cinema at 651 Tran Hung Dao, District 5. |
In 2017, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved a proposal to invest in a multi-purpose children's cultural center and cinema complex here under a BOT contract, with a total capital of about 164 billion VND. However, to date, this area has been left abandoned and degraded, with notices posted outside that the project is at risk of being unsafe. |
Thong Nhat Stadium is one of the oldest stadiums in Vietnam, with a capacity of 20,000 seats. But now, many items of the stadium have been degraded. |
According to plan, in January 2025, the stadium will be handed over for repair. |
Completion time is expected at the end of 2025 in time for the 10th National Sports Festival in 2026. |
The total cost of renovating and upgrading Thong Nhat Stadium is more than 149 billion VND. |
The Rach Chiec Sports Complex Project (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) was invested in 1994 with a total estimated capital of nearly 15,000 billion VND, but to date the project has been "inactive" for 3 decades. |
The complex was originally planned on an area of 466 hectares, but after many adjustments, it was reduced to 212 hectares. Of which, 180 hectares were used to invest in infrastructure and technical equipment. When completed, this project will serve a maximum of about 100,000 people, including athletes, spectators, staff, press, and visitors. |
Expected to become a modern sports complex, most of the area is still mostly vacant land, overgrown with grass, and scattered ponds. Scattered in the project are temporary houses of people in the planning area. |
One of the projects of Rach Chiec sports complex is Saigon Sport City urban sports complex with an area of 64 hectares, which is also in a state of suspended construction. Started at the end of 2019 and expected to be completed in 2027, but so far the project has only completed the model house. |
Phan Dinh Phung Stadium, mentioned by Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai, is located right on the "golden" land frontage of the city's central road: Pasteur - Nguyen Dinh Chieu - Nam Ky Khoi Nghia - Vo Van Tan (District 3). This project was approved by the Prime Minister for investment in the form of BT in 2008 and was implemented from March 2010. The announced investment of the stadium was 988 billion VND, by 2013, the project's price had increased to 1,352 billion VND. |
Up to now, the project has been "shelved" for more than 13 years and is in a state of disrepair, overgrown with grass and trees. |
