Acquaintances at V-League
The match between Vietnam and India is part of FIFA Days in October 2024, and will take place at 6 p.m. on October 12 at Thien Truong Stadium (Nam Dinh). According to the original plan, the Indian team had two friendly matches with Lebanon and Vietnam, but because the Lebanese team could not come, coach Manolo Marquez's team only had one friendly match with the host Vietnam. The match was changed from October 9 to October 12, because the Indian team could not change their flight tickets and kept their schedule to come to Vietnam on October 7.
Although it is only a friendly match, this match is considered very important for both the Vietnamese and Indian teams. For the host Vietnam, coach Kim Sang-sik has not left much of an impression since taking office (May 2024). Therefore, a win with a clear strategy will help improve the morale of the players as well as the fans of the Vietnamese team. Meanwhile, the Indian team also has a streak of 10 consecutive matches without knowing the taste of victory, and is in dire need of a positive result.
The Vietnamese team really needs a win to improve their morale.
According to Thanh Nien Newspaper, the friendly match between the Vietnamese team will be refereed by a team of referees including Mr. Songkran Bunmeekiart (Thailand), Choi Huyn-jai (Korea), Komsan Kampan (Thailand) and Mr. Woraphong Prasertsee (Thailand).
Among them, referee Songkran Bunmeekiart is very familiar to Vietnamese football fans. Mr. Songkran Bunmeekiart was born in 1990 and is one of the prestigious and experienced referees in Thai football. In the "final" match of V-League 2023 between Hanoi Club and Hanoi Police Team (CAHN), Mr. Songkran Bunmeekiart was invited by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to be the main referee.
Previously, in V-League 2022, Mr. Songkran Bunmeekiart was also invited by VFF to referee the match between Ho Chi Minh City Club and Da Nang Club in round 24. Notably, in this match, the Thai referee blew a penalty, opening up a goal to break the deadlock and then Ho Chi Minh City Club defeated Da Nang Club with a score of 3-0.

Meanwhile, referee Choi Hyun-jai is also quite famous in Korea. He is often assigned by the Korea Football Association (KFA) to officiate in the K-League. In the final of the 31st SEA Games, Mr. Choi Hyun-jai, along with his assistants Salybaev (Kyrgyzstan), Hasan Kanso (Lebanon), and Ammar Ashkanani (Kuwait), officiated the match between U.23 Vietnam and U.23 Indonesia. At that time, U.23 Vietnam was led by coach Park Hang-seo and won 3-0.
By 2023, when the Vietnam U.23 team won the Southeast Asian U.23 tournament, Mr. Choi Huyn-jai was also one of the referees who officiated the tournament.

Returning to the match between Vietnam and India, the “Golden Star Warriors” are ranked 116th in the world, 10 places higher than the Indian team, so they are considered stronger. Apart from Gurpreet Singh Sandhu - a goalkeeper who played in the UEFA Europa League, the Indian team is not too outstanding. However, coach Manolo Marquez still affirmed that his and the Indian team's goal is to win.
“India doesn’t have much time to travel. We are fully focused, looking forward to the match against Vietnam. The team came here to win. I called these players because they are among the best, ready to face Vietnam. Obviously, physically, we are much better than before the season. Vietnam is similar to India, their national championship has gone through 4 rounds. The team that wins will prove that they are stronger than the other team, at least within the scope of the upcoming match,” said Manolo Marquez.
