According to the General Statistics Office, by the end of 2024, total foreign direct investment (FDI) capital will reach 38.23 billion USD. Notably, FDI capital realized in 2024 set a record of exceeding 25 billion USD.
Data released by the General Statistics Office at a press conference on the morning of January 6 showed that the total registered FDI capital in Vietnam as of December 31, 2024, including newly registered capital, adjusted registered capital, and capital contribution and share purchase value of foreign investors, reached 38.23 billion USD, down 3.0% over the same period last year.
Accordingly, 3,375 newly licensed projects were registered with a total registered capital of 19.73 billion USD, an increase of 1.8% over the same period last year in terms of number of projects and a decrease of 7.6% in terms of registered capital.
Notably, the processing and manufacturing industry was granted the largest number of new licenses with registered capital reaching 13.44 billion USD, accounting for 68.1% of the total newly registered capital.
Next, real estate business activities reached 3.72 billion USD, accounting for 18.8%. The remaining industries reached 2.57 billion USD, accounting for 13.1%.
Among 80 countries and territories with newly licensed investment projects in Vietnam in 2024, Singapore is the largest investor with 6.26 billion USD, accounting for 31.7% of total newly registered capital.
Next, South Korea with 2.89 billion USD, accounting for 14.6%; China with 2.84 billion USD, accounting for 14.4%. Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China) is 2.17 billion USD, accounting for 11.0%.
Regarding adjusted registered capital, there were 1,539 projects adjusting investment capital by an additional 13.96 billion USD, up 50.4% over the same period last year.
If including newly registered capital and adjusted registered capital of licensed projects from previous years, foreign direct investment capital registered in the processing and manufacturing industry reached 24.68 billion USD, accounting for 73.3% of the total newly registered and increased capital.
Real estate business activities reached 5.09 billion USD, accounting for 15.1%; the remaining industries reached 3.91 billion USD, accounting for 11.6%.
Foreign investors registered to contribute capital and buy shares with 3,502 times with a total capital contribution value of 4.54 billion USD, down 48.1% over the same period last year.
Of these, there were 1,397 capital contributions and share purchases that increased the charter capital of enterprises with a capital contribution value of 2.2 billion USD; 2,105 foreign investors bought back domestic shares without increasing charter capital with a value of 2.34 billion USD.
Regarding capital contribution and share purchase by foreign investors, investment capital in real estate business activities reached 1.22 billion USD, accounting for 26.8% of capital contribution value; processing and manufacturing industry reached 896.6 million USD, accounting for 19.8%; other industries 2.42 billion USD, accounting for 53.4%.
Notably, foreign direct investment realized in Vietnam in 2024 is estimated at 25.35 billion USD, up 9.4% over the previous year.
Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry reached 20.62 billion USD, accounting for 81.4% of the total realized foreign direct investment capital. Real estate business activities reached 1.84 billion USD, accounting for 7.2%; production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning reached 1.07 billion USD, accounting for 4.2%.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director General of the General Statistics Office, said that the FDI figures with newly registered capital and implemented capital, in which implemented capital increased significantly, showed the confidence of foreign investors in the business environment in Vietnam. At the same time, it also demonstrated that the FDI sector is increasingly making very important direct contributions to economic growth.
In addition, a report from the General Statistics Office shows that in 2024, Vietnam's overseas investment had 164 projects newly granted investment certificates with a total capital of 603.7 million USD, more than double that of the previous year; there were 26 projects adjusting capital with an adjusted capital of 61.1 million USD, down 55.8%.
In 2024, Vietnam's total investment capital abroad (newly granted and adjusted capital) reached 664.8 million USD, an increase of 57.7% over the previous year.
