Algerian state media has announced that the country is the first customer to receive Su-57 fighters exported from Russia.
According to the military website The War Zone , Algerian media revealed that Algerian pilots are being trained in Russia to be able to fly fighters and Algeria could receive the first Su-57 export aircraft by the end of this year.
The value of the order and the number of fighters delivered were not disclosed. Russia's defense conglomerate Rosoboronexport said on February 10 that a foreign partner would receive the Su-57 fighter this year. The Russian fifth-generation fighter was also introduced at the Indian air show that took place earlier this week. Russian officials have not commented on the information that the Su-57 will be exported to Algeria.

Some sources say Algeria may receive the first six Su-57s, but this information has not been confirmed. Meanwhile, the production speed of this type of aircraft is also questioned. The Russian Air Force received at least six Su-57s in 2022, more than 10 in 2023 and only about 2 or 3 last year, according to The War Zone. Sanctions against Russia have also significantly affected the production capacity of the Su-57.

The export version of the Su-57E is expected to have some technological cuts, but if it is equipped with the Algerian Air Force, it will still be a notable addition when compared to the air forces of neighboring African countries. Algeria also has Russian aircraft such as the Su-30MKA, MiG-29, Su-24MK2, and Mi-24 and Mi-28 helicopters.
According to Russian military documents, the Su-57 is capable of flying "twice the speed of sound" (equivalent to 2,500 km/h), has a ceiling of 20 km and can fly nearly 3,000 km before refueling, Newsweek said.
The fighter is also known as the “air arsenal” because it can be equipped with many types of weapons for each specific purpose. The Su-57 can carry R-77M air-to-air missiles with a range of nearly 200 km, bombs, air-to-ground missiles (like the Kh-69) or anti-ship missiles. The Su-57's weapon load is up to 14 - 16 tons, more than rival aircraft thanks to its design using composite materials.
