The United Cup is considered a warm-up tournament for players before entering the new season. This is a mixed team event, and players are determined to compete to bring the highest results for the national team.
In the first United Cup held in 2023, which Serbia did not participate in, the US team won the championship after defeating Italy 4-0 in the final thanks to the brilliance of Jessica Pegula, Frances Tiafoe, Madison Keys, Taylor Fritz.
The 2024 United Cup is organized by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (WTA). This is the opening tournament of the ATP Tour 2024 and WTA Tour 2024, taking place from December 29, 2023 to January 7, 2024 in Perth and Sydney (Australia).
In this year's tournament, 18 teams are divided into 6 groups, selecting 6 teams to compete in 3 knockout matches. In the knockout round, 3 winning teams will win tickets to the semi-finals, 3 losing teams will compete in a round-robin to compete for the remaining semi-final ticket.
With Djokovic's presence, the Serbian team is considered a strong candidate for the championship. Nole and his teammates are in Group E with China and the Czech Republic.
According to the registration list, the Italian team is missing Jannik Sinner and Spain does not have the services of Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal.
