The organizing committee of the U.23 Southeast Asian Championship has met to discuss security measures for the match between U.23 Thailand and U.23 Indonesia, in the semi-final match taking place at 8:00 p.m. on August 24. The security measures are aimed at avoiding a repeat of the incident in the final match of the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. In this match, players from both teams had a terrible fight. Many players were later suspended and not called up to the national team.

According to Thanh Nien , U.23 Indonesia also requested security at their base. The match between U.23 Indonesia and U.23 Thailand took place at Rayong Principal Stadium. Coach Shin Tae-yong wanted security to be tightened so that the players could focus on the match.

In the final match of the 32nd SEA Games 3 months ago, the U.22 Thai and Indonesian players had many offensive behaviors. The drama was pushed to its climax in the 90+9 minute, when U.22 Indonesia was leading 2-1. At the time the referee blew the whistle for U.22 Thailand, coach Indra Sjafri and some U.22 Indonesian players thought it was the final whistle and celebrated wildly. However, U.22 Thailand quickly brought the ball into play and in the 90+10 minute, Yodsakorn Burapha rushed down and shot close to the net, burning the U.22 Indonesian net to tie the score 2-2, bringing the match into extra time. After Yodsakorn scored, the U.22 Thai players ran around the U.22 Indonesia technical area to celebrate.

Angry with their opponents, the coaching staff and players of U.22 Indonesia got into a fight with the U.22 Thailand team. Dozens of security guards had to step in to diffuse the tension. In extra time, player Irfan Jauhari took advantage of a mistake by a U.22 Thai player to score for U.22 Indonesia. Once again, a fight broke out and the referee issued 14 yellow cards and 7 red cards to the players and coaching staff of both teams.

The AFC then imposed heavy penalties. Seven members of the Indonesian U.22 team - including three players and four coaches and officials - were banned for six matches. Two players Agung Bagus Fawwazi, Komang Teguh and three members of the coaching staff: Tegar Diokta, Ahmad Nizar and Toid Sarnadi were also fined $1,000. Seven members of Thailand also received similar penalties. In particular, goalkeeper Soponwit Rakyart and two assistant coaches Pattarawut Wongsriphuek and Mayeid Mad-Adam were banned for six matches and fined $1,000. Midfielder Chayapipat Supunpasuch and officials Purachet Todsanit, Thirapak Prueangna and Bamrung Boonprom were banned from attending matches but were not fined.

Returning to the 2023 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament, U.23 Thailand entered the semi-finals as the top team in Group A (winning all 3 matches), while U.23 Indonesia finished second in the group after 1 win and 1 loss. In the final of the 32nd SEA Games, U.23 Indonesia defeated U.23 Thailand with a score of 5-2.

Coach Issara Sritaro of Thailand U.23 shared: "I think the 4 teams in the semi-finals are all strong. We know each other very well. Both Indonesia U.23 and Thailand U.23 know how each other will play. We have to see how the match plays out in detail to know the result. Tomorrow's match will be very different from the SEA Games final. The players will show 100% of their ability. I expect both teams to perform well."
