Germany unexpectedly unveiled its EURO 2024 mascot on June 20, much to the surprise of children at a primary school in Gelsenkirchen, the same city where Germany played Colombia in a friendly at the Veltins-Arena, which ended in a 2-0 victory for the visitors.
The mascot is a big-headed teddy bear with round eyes, wearing a football uniform - this is a noteworthy detail. At the 2006 World Cup held in Germany, they used a lion mascot called Goleo, which was later ridiculed for not wearing pants.

According to information from UEFA, they are voting for the mascot name with 4 options including Albärt, Bärnardo, Bärnheart or Herzi von Bär, in which “Bär” means Bear in German. Notably, children will be invited to choose a name for the teddy bear mascot and it is expected that the official name will be announced in the next 2 weeks.
Sharing after the launch of the teddy bear mascot, the representative of the host EURO 2024 - former national team player Philipp Lahm said: "As a parent, I know how important it is to stimulate children's imagination. With the launch of the mascot, we hope to create a fun and lovable character that will inspire children to play football."
The EURO 2024 mascot will embark on a MakeMoves journey in schools across Europe, sparking pupils' imaginations to bring the mascot to life.
Children can create their own skills and celebrations, with the EURO 2024 hosts using technology to capture children's movements and create those actions for the mascot.
Anthony Rule is the designer of the EURO 2024 teddy bear mascot. Before its launch, he sent many versions, edited and discussed with UEFA. The mascot will soon have a name and appear in the host cities of EURO next year, the tournament will take place from June 14 to July 14, 2024.
