In recent years, implementing the Program of cooperation in tourism development between 8 extended Northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City, tourism in the provinces of the region has improved a lot, contributing to preserving indigenous culture, creating momentum for growth and economic restructuring in localities.
In particular, the provinces in the region have tens of thousands of hectares of terraced fields, of which three locations, Mu Cang Chai district with nearly 2,200 hectares, Hoang Su Phi district with nearly 765 hectares and Sa Pa with nearly 1,000 hectares, are recognized as National Landscapes. This is a great potential for the provinces to link up and develop tourism.
At the workshop, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Le Phuc said that the extended Northwest region has rich and diverse tourism resources in both natural and human resources with majestic natural landscapes, unique terrain, geology, climate, ecosystem, unique culture and heroic history.

Most recently, Ha Giang was awarded Asia's Leading Emerging Tourism Destination 2023 by the World Travel Awards (WTA).

At the workshop, delegates all agreed that terraced fields in the Northwest region have a unique and majestic beauty, crystallized from the culture and labor of the highland people.
