On September 4, 2024, the Southern Economic Union Cooperatives Union signed a Memorandum of Understanding on strategic cooperation with GSM Company on leasing and purchasing 5,000 VinFast electric cars in 2024, to gradually replace and eventually replace the entire existing gasoline fleet.
According to the recently signed agreement, the Southern Economic Cooperative Alliance will immediately receive 1,000 VinFast electric cars in September and October 2024.
The remaining vehicles will be jointly delivered by GSM and VinFast in the last two months of the year.
These vehicles will be used by members of the Cooperative Union to provide transportation services instead of the current fleet of gasoline vehicles. The union's future goal is to make a comprehensive green transition, replacing 100% of members' vehicles with electric vehicles, investing in charging stations and facilities to meet technical requirements for maintenance and repair of electric vehicles.
Currently, with about 55,000 members, the Southern Economic Cooperative Alliance is the largest technology taxi driver union in Vietnam, accounting for about 70%.
Realizing that the trend of electric vehicles is growing stronger and stronger, with many economic, health and environmental benefits, the union has decided to accompany and encourage members to switch to green through cooperation in renting and purchasing VinFast electric vehicles from GSM for business services. At present, thousands of union members have been using VinFast vehicles to provide services on ride-hailing platforms, especially Xanh SM Platform.
The Union will also provide practical financial support solutions for drivers, support business registration on the Green SM Platform, or waive vehicle management fees when using electric vehicles to join the cooperative.
Mr. Tran Thanh Tuan, Chairman of the Cooperative Union, said: “Taking creativity and innovation as a guiding principle for action, we are constantly looking for new approaches to meet the increasing needs of customers and the global greening trend. With the companionship and inspiration from GSM, the union will become a bridge to continue expanding the pure electric transportation network to each cooperative and each member to develop a strong green alliance, maximizing positive values in both economic and social aspects.”
Also attending the cooperation signing ceremony, Mr. Le Tan Luu, Chairman of the Motorbike Taxi and Technology Vehicle Union of Binh Tan District shared: "The support and companionship policies of the business units and cooperatives in the union with GSM are expected to create favorable conditions for workers to access better policies, switch to better means of transport, be safer at work, and at the same time improve the lives and social security of drivers".
The fact that the largest Cooperative of Technology Taxi Drivers in Vietnam participates in the green transformation with GSM is proof of the economic efficiency and positive impact on the social environment of electric cars.
This cooperation agreement also marks a clear shift in the awareness of green transformation of the technology taxi driver community and the determination to upgrade the quality, professionalism and civilization in providing public passenger transport services.
Along with the green transformation program with GSM, the Southern Economic Alliance Cooperatives Union also provides its drivers with many good social security and welfare policies such as regular medical check-ups and treatment; opening 24/7 rescue centers; providing free stops for food and rest; establishing a charity fund; providing financial support with special preferential interest rates for members in difficult circumstances...
On GSM's side, over the past year since its establishment, the company has accompanied more than 35 green transformation businesses, including taxi companies and franchised transport businesses in many localities.
Recently, GSM welcomed nearly 5,000 VinFast electric vehicle owners to participate in providing services on the Green SM Platform, making electric vehicles a familiar and community-friendly form of transportation.
